Wow!? So, I can spend FIVE mana to deal 4 damage to a creature (provided it is not an elemental), instead of spending 1 mana to deal 3 damage to any creature or player with a Lightning Bolt?! But, this will deal 7 damage to Treefolk - which are, as we know, VERY scary, so it must be good?!

I think the deal is that in an elemental deck this spell can be cast by spending elemental mana, which is abundant smokebraiders and all that jazz. I'd still pick flameslash, even if it's a sorcery. I mean, how often are you just letting 5 mana stay unspendt between rounds just in case there's something you reallyreallyreally want to kill coming out with haste?

Horrid card. I mean sure, in a draft you would have begrudgingly accepted it as a final pick. Heck, you may have even used it to magnificent effect that one time. Outside of the draft however. Almost waste of cardboard. 1.5/5 because unlike somecards it may have caused some major upsets once upon a time.

probably would have forced it into uncommon. in order for Sorcery speed burn
to be worth using, it really has to be able to hit players. Flame Slash was pushed
as far as we'll ever see, and it's still only 'ok/fine', not 'super great', because not only Bolt
but even Shock are so efficient that things are not instants AND miss either creatures or players
are just really hard to make desirable.

I feel like this should kill Thorn Elemental, unfortunately it can't be targeted by this spell.

Who plays treefolk anyway, its a shit tribe. Maybe theres some kind of benefit to be gained by this being a tribal sorcery? I guess it can be tutored by that harbinger...or you can unnaturally select your opponents creatures/your stuffy doll into a treefolk...but even then shivan meteor is way better
