does anyone know... if you have 2 of these out can you tap your merfolk let one go off then tap them again before the second one takes effect because if you can then why wouldn't you be able to do the same for the merkfeind leige... thanks lots.. Dorkus

313.1. As the end of turn step begins, all abilities that trigger “at end of turn” go on the stack. (See rule
410, “Handling Triggered Abilities.”) Then the active player gets priority and players may play
spells and abilities.

If my interpretation is correct, when you have two Merrow Commerces out, both triggered abilities will go onto the stack as the end of turn step begins. You then have priority. If everyone passes, the first item on the stack (which is the first of the two untapping triggered abilities) resolves, untapping your Merfolk. You then get priority again before the second triggered ability resolves, which means that you could potentially use activated abilities with Tap in their cost before allowing the second untapping triggered ability to resolve.

A more awesome form of a blue Serra's Blessing for a Merfolk Deck.
Although for sure not comparable with the black faerie version of that tribal enchantment cycle, though.

The reason why Murkfiend Liege does not stack, as Merrow Commerce does, is because it is impossible to do anything during anybody's untap step. No player has priority, nor can any player play instants or activate abilities at instant speed during the untap step. Therefore, once the first Murkfiend Liege resolves, it is impossible to tap your creatures to have them untap with a second Murkfiend Liege.

302.2. No player receives priority during the untap step, so no spells or abilities can be played or
resolved. Any ability that triggers during this step will be held until a player would receive
priority during the upkeep step. (See rule 303, “Upkeep Step.”)

Now -that's- a strong economy. So strong it instantly untaps all your fishies.

Now if only there was an easy way to turn my lands into merfolk...

Also, I'm surprised no one mentioned Wake Thrasher. It keeps him beefy on your opponent's turns, making him harder to kill through combat or burn spells.

Quite worth stacking with Murkfiend. You only want 2 of those in your deck probably (as they don't stack as mentioned..) but it combines with this handsomely. Lullmage mentor, Drowner of Secrets, Fallowsage, and other cards adore these combinations.

@Arglypuff:

That's not why. As the section you quoted indicates, an ability that triggers during an untap phase actually waits until the next phase (normally the upkeep), and people get a chance to respond to it before it resolves then.

However, Murkfiend Liege's ability is not triggered -- it's a continuous ability (like Winter Orb) that changes the rules for the untap phase. Therefore extra copies do nothing.

If it said "At the start of each other player's untap phase..." it would be a triggered ability and would stack, with the triggered effects waiting until the untap phase and giving you a chance to respond before they resolve at that point. (Although WotC would never publish an ability that triggered during the untap phase like that, since it'd be pointlessly confusing -- it'd trigger at the start of the upkeep instead.)
