Isn't this the only red unsummon though? EDIT: Stingscourger from the same set is the only other red card to do that same thing for just red mana.

A rare control card for red. Great for forcing enemies to lose counters, auras and equipment. Can erase token creatures and mess up blockers. Change the field for a turn by bouncing a Lord/Liege at the last second. If you all out attack, you can protect yourself from the biggest attacker during the opponent's turn and all out attack the next turn.

It's a type of control for red that isn't usually available, which is why it cost more. And being able to either kill a little creature with good abilities or bounce a big creature that's coming at you, with the same four cards? That's worth it. This is a decent card.

What Ritius said. Pretty useful card if only for the versatility.

This card made it to a lot of sideboards when this set was in standard (occasionally it'll be in the main deck), and it makes quite a few sideboards in extended. A red unsummon will catch a LOT of people off guard. And if the creature has low toughness, you just pay R and kill it instead.

First card from planar chaos that I ever saw. I immediately replaced all of my shocks for this and never regretted it. The decks I use, I never want to just shock the opponent anyways I'm not the kind of person to put 40 burn spells in a deck to kill someone that way so this card suites me just fine. The unsummon part is so useful. They sneak in a tombstalker or greater gargadon or use leaf-crowned elder to put a big dumb tree in I just bounce it back and with land destruction, they will never be able to get it back down again. In the right hands, bounce target permanent is the same as destroy.

the "dead" part is exactly a shock. you might be thinking of it being a weak lightning bolt but that wasn't legal when this was printed. Also, red bounce is really powerful, just in case something is in your way that you can't kill.

Exactly a Shock + expensive but out-of-color Unsummonon the same card, giving you more options = significantly versatile card.
You know, I used to want you Dead, but now I only want you Gone.

People seem to forget that the Unsummon-esque part can come in pretty handy against fatties. might appear quite underwhelming at first, but if you think about it that's some great utility in addition to the Shock you already have. If you are worried about a big creature of your opponent that you can't shock or bolt away, but don't want to use a big burn spell for it either, you'll be happy to draw this.
I mean it's obvious, just think of the names: Do you want it dead, or do you want it gone (for now)?
If Gone would only cost as well this would be crazy good. I'd so use it :D

Direct damage and a RED bounce on the same card? GREAT!

No love for the name of the card? No "your creature is dead" jokes? For once, the humor of the gatherer has failed me.

I really want to like this card, but the fact that it's the ONLY split card currently printed at common means I probably won't be including this in my pauper cube. The way these cards work is not immediately obvious to the younger players I frequently cube with -- some of whom are still figuring out that "add G to your mana pool" does not mean "search your deck for another forest."

For me this card is great... Red has not big removals like black or white in his single color, cause normally kills by damage. So, with this you can turn aside big creatures without kill them in a single card. Kill a 6/6 creature needs 2 Lightning Bolts for example, but only one card like this.
For me 4/5

Guys, remember, the Shock is creature only. Still, this card is... ... Odd. That's really all I've got.

It's part of the Timespiral block, it was strange on purpose. If you're looking at this card and think it's wacky just wait until you look at Future Sight. The block just got weirder as it progressed.

If you're not running blue, the bounce is incredible. What else do you have to deal with indestructible cards? Puncture Blast? And if you don't want to pay 3, put it on a stick.

for all those who this this is "weird" or "odd", i'm obligated to reference Stingscourger

The sheer strangeness of this block is part of why it's my favorite after the two Ravnica ones. Not the sort of card I'd run in my Izzet deck, but still has quite a bit of potential.

Take each half and stand it alone and its an underpowered card. Put them together and you have a nice little common.
