Why must such a cool-looking creature suck so hard? A 3/2 flying first strike would suck hard enough for 5 mana. The fact that it needs to pay to get first strike makes it worse.

Well, with Baneslayer Angel having the exact same cost but +2/+3 and already Flying and First Strike in addition to Lifelink and 2 pro abilities... this one isn't worth much.

Baneslayer is a mythic rare. This was a common. You have to factor that in.
That being said, it's still over-costed. A sign of the times. If it were for a 3/3 flier it might be more balanced. The Snow cost to activate first strike means you have to play at least a few snow land, which brings as many vulnerabilities as it does benefits, and thus seems like a wash.
There's this unofficial rule that Griffins have to be crap. This guy exemplifies it. There are SO many things in Coldsnap that totally abuse the hell out of the "snow mana" mechanic, and this is the polar opposite of those cards.

No, it has an activated ability. Necrotic Ooze cares about that.
It's even worse than Exodus's red Sabertooth Wyvern, not to mention the legendary Mirri the Cursed.
Survives Chill to the Bone, though.
