For 2 mana, Erg Raiders are a great investment. The penalty for not attacking with the Raiders is steep, but it's better than "must attack each turn if able" - unless, of course, your opponent is running Pacifism type auras. Still, getting a 2/3 in black for 2 mana is good, even by today's standards. Erg Raiders fit best into an aggressive black deck, and they are particularly effective alongside Black Knights with a few Bad Moons to beef them up.

The draw back is reasonable, and the creature was pretty good at it's time.
I like it.

Hell, the Raiders are still a good creature. Great value for the cost, and the drawback, even when it becomes relevant, is not that steep.

Wow. This is still a really solid creature. The drawback can be risky, but in a fast aggro shell I bet this is really effective. 2/3 for is definitely not something to ignore.
