Unless this bad-boy gets countered or wrathed, he's virtually unstoppable. Talk about a BEAST :)

Sky Swallower Is Right

Correct me if I'm wrong, but according to graft's text, it doesn't actually target the creature, it merely move counters on to it. Therefore, this creature is found within the one group that can buff it and even if that is false, Novijen, Heart of Progress, the Simic's own uncommon land, can still buff it assuming you have the mana which, admittedly, is doubtful but still possible. Also, I've found that this works very well in combo with an entwined Tooth and Nail to get 2 of this card out for 9 mana, since (again, correct me if Im wrong) Tooth and Nail says choose, not target.

To answer your question Nantuko_Primus, yes; you can use graft with shrouded creatures and you can use the sky swallower with tooth+nail.

A really uderestimated creature. Right now, with targeted removal being so damn strong and all over the place, his Shroud makes him a truly unstoppable beast that will most likely catch your opponents with their pants down. 5/5

He is the the second reason why I still want to play with UG deck (the first one is mystic snake). He is truly a Unstoppable Beast.

This and inkwell leviathan really turned the leviathan type around...they used to be giant creatures that had ridiculous, unplayable drawbacks. I cracked one of these in the first dissension booster I ever opened and it has won me many a game.

Fatties with trample are really good! If they have flying are even better! And if they have shroud are the best!
The best Leviathan, and the best cow in Ravnica block!
5/5

Simic skyswallower can't dodge wrath of god, but it does have what every good large creature should have, a way to get at the enemies life points, a form of evasion, and a form of protection. Put all 3 together and even at 7 mana its a really great creature. It's not garaunteed unremovable, but you sure make your opponent work for it.

This is a creature bred for WAR.
It's quite possibly the first creature that I paid 7 mana for and didn't feel cheated.
For many a game it has been the physical manifestation of the phrase "Wrath of God or die, please."

Play it and your opponents have to hope they came loaded with Wrath of God, Inferno, Nevinyerall's Disk or something similar.

Fantastic creature. Just wish it had some kind of graft-skill-sharing ability. I mean its Simic's big gun (aside from Kraj, and it didn't have sharing abilities either).

Limited bomb-city (arguably the bombiest rare in Dissension), not to mention the fact that it makes a fine work-towards-me big guy for a casual ramp or combo deck. My playset of this guy has served me in many a casual deck over the years. Now, to make my Ula's Temple deck work...

Bred out the shortcomings of Leviathans indeed.

This puts most dragons to shame. Especially poor Ancient Hellkite.

Oddly enough, this card lost his spot as my finisher in a U/G control deck to Plated Slagwurm.
Still one of my favorite cards to this day.

Opponent plays Baneslayer, then smirks as I graft it.
Next turn I play Simic Sky Swallower and give it 4 counters.
My next turn I drop a Cytoplast Manipulator and he almost cries.

Strictly more Simic than Sky Swallower.

An excellent finisher for a Simic deck, after you've cleared stuff out with a Trygon Predator. Here's hoping the upcoming Ravnica 2.0 block will have something similar, except maybe at 7/7 and with hexproof.

Probably the best thing about this guy is, in Simic, he isn't going to be a 6/6. He's going to be closer to 12/12.

Everything you want in a fatty and tailor-made for Simic, since graft is one of the few abilities that gets around shroud and Simic Guildmage is one of the few ways to get an aura onto the guy. I'm so looking forward to Simic in RtR I could pee my pants!!!

I always associate this card with "Float On" by Modest Mouse. I think it came on the radio around the same time Dissension came out and I was thinking about Magic the first time I heard it and since SSS is flying through the clouds... well, it got permanently attached to that song in my head.

I would play this guy even if he had been priced at 8 mana. He is quite big, has TWO forms of evasion (trample is a green evasion) and he has an unbiased protection, which barely makes him balanced. A really powerful card, but not a broken card. He is how I rate a deck's versatility.
"I see your win condition, I see your essentials, I see your removal... but can you theoretically (with the right hand) handle a Simic Sky Swallower?"

You wrath, you evacuate and discard or you play a flier/reacher that can kill him upon blocking.

Wing Shards would also work, though you'd be making your opponent a better player by reminding them to play everything on their second main phase.

I am a green Mage, and not since my very introduction to Magic 4 years ago have I really showed an interest in blue mana, let alone Simic guild (I play Gruul/Selesnya)

But this beautiful, wonderfully-constructed card may have just won me over

I had this is a graveyard recursion deck very briefly before deciding it was no fun (not for me, and certainly not for my opponent). The proper use is the obvious one, a late game beater. Shroud is so much cooler than hexproof. Beautiful card. 5/5

AND he has rk post art. Seriosuly, better than trample.

Also of note, if he blocks a Spiritmonger, then HE gets swallowed. By a beast. And Spiritmonger has such an awesome battle story he'll never have to buy a beer again.
