Do we like 6/5s for 2? do we like destroying for unconditional tap effects? yes yes i think we do.

Attach Thornbite Staff to it. Take a look at the second ability Thornbite Staff gives. It is now called "Selective Damnation".

Nice card. I like how it can be casted cheaper too because one of the major problems these days are insane and stupid casting costs of cards that are in print now because people ALWAYS WHINE about good stuff being overpowered.

I sideboard this in my mill deck. May be my favorite artwork on a card.

This beautiful card embodies everything a big black mana born creature should be; mean, powerfull and unfogiving. While not going into the realm of "overpowered/broken" cards becuase it's secondary play condition can only be ensured to happen quickly enough to be a game breaker by very specific strategies, near perfection in a hunk of cardboard, the artwork is a masterpiece aswell truely as fearsome looking as it's abilities tell you it should be.
Easily my favorite creature ever printed.

Good (or rather Evil) old Avatar of Woe, maybe to expensive but he's still great.

This is just the the best card of the black color, and one of the best cards of all Magic singles.
It mixes destruction and power, like an endless source of death... to the oponnent, of course. XD
And here goes the truth: the best cards are just the old cards, of the old collections, like this big daddy here.

Awesome on its own, absolutely badass in multiplayer. I'll Living Wish one of these babies up and lay it down on the same turn with mana to spare for other stuff. As if the sheer wickedness of the card wasn't enough, the art is phenomenal- easily among the 10 best illustrations in the game. I mean, you have the Avatar itself (I doubt it has a gender- it looks more androgynous if anything,) which looks creepy beyond all reasoning, but then you have the background, which really emphasizes that this is THE avatar of sorrow, despair and hopelessness. The triplicate of women, bawling their eyes out in the background, disemboweled. (Or if you're really in a squickish mood, you could surmise that her unborn child was ripped right out of her womb. Enough to give you nightmares.)

Considering how awesome this card is... easily the best Black creature in ages, and certainly one of the best cards in Prophecies (cough) the most ridiculous part is-- it was available in a Prophecies pre-con deck. When I saw the deck, and this in it... my eyes almost popped out of my head.

I play black, and even I think this is a bit too powerful, but oh well, a lot of cards are. About time one of them were black.

I love black cards and this card is nasty. Pretty easy to meet the lower casting cost condition in multiplayer.

I would play this in my mono-white deck over my only Baneslayer Angel any day.
That's how much I like this card.

always a big fan of the art on this card, plus it was one of the coolest cards I inherited from my brother's old collection of cards. The avatars of ___ were always a cool concept.

@hunthell From what I read on thornbite staff, it seems that it only attaches itself to a SHAMAN and not an AVATAR, so in theory it would be nice. If I'm wrong on that please let me know. I haven't played MtG since Stronghold days so equipping is still new to me, but as I understand it, the artifact comes in to play, then you pay the activation cost to equip a creature. So wouldn't the activation cost be a SHAMAN coming in to play?

I was debating on buying the reanimater Scheme theme deck. I was looking at the box and it wasn't sold to me until I saw this! AVATAR OF WOE!!! A Black rare so Good it should be Mythic! I already have 1 avatar of woe but having a second one is always awesome! So I was like "SOLD!"

There are 2 ways you can attach Thornbite Staff to a creature, it automatically attaches to a Shaman for free when it comes into play, or you can pay to attach it to anything.

This card is so awesome. For flavor alone I would give it a 5, but the fact that it's such a good card also, especially in Multiplayer, makes this chick. . or dude, whatever it is, amazing.

I got 20 Prophecy boosters, drew two Avatar Of Fury, one Avatar Of Might, two Spellshapers, four Winds... But not this. :(
I open my SECOND Time spiral Tournament Pack, and drw this, another Timeshifted rare, and of course three TS rares. :)))))))
This one's a one-in in almost every black deck, it's just THAT good. Even sicker if combined with mechanics which dump creatures from your hand/library into your graveyard.

Pretty awesome in self mill or mill. Getting a 6/5 with evasion for is good enough, through in the repeatable terminate and you have yourself a 5/5
