The sheer ammount of land you'll burn to play it prevents the card from being worthwile, sadly.

Actually, this card is somewhat usable if you can give it haste. Then its a reusable kill spell.

To sir_dwar: I think you mean the SHEAR amount of land you'll burn prevents it from being EWEsful. I guess you think it's pretty BAAAAAAAAD. :D

BAAAAAA! As far as flavour is concerned it's no contest - coolest card ever. Love the picture too. But it simply won't work in a pure blue deck. Multi-colour, though, that's another story. I made a 40 card blue/green sheep/rabbit deck that looked something like this :

4 x Ovinomancer
4 x Sakura-Tribe Scout
2 x Jackalope Herd
2 x Vizzerdrix

4 x Summer Bloom
2 x Giant Growth
2 x Instill Energy
2 x Unstable Mutation
2 x Essence Flare

I could play Ovinomancers and then just replay all my lands with Sakura-Tribe Scouts. It actually won games, too. Until it came up against my red goat deck, that is! (but that's a tale for another time)

Dr.Pompous, you win a free game of Magic in my book. That's an awesome deck idea. Quirky, yet surprisingly efficient...awesome. Well done.

1 problem :: need 60 cards in a deck to actually be legal.

He's also full of vizzerdrix, that deck is flat out BAAAD. This card is terrible, just use Ovinize on Isocheron Scepter for better results.

@DrPompousMD

Add Azusa, Lost but Seeking to that deck. Sakura-Tribe Scouts are great, but unless you have three in play for each Ovinomacer you have in play & in hand, they won't be enough.

Lol, Fervor makes this good. Use the ability with the sac on the stack, and he bounces himself. bouncing lands isnt always worth it, especially not at this cost.
If you do use him to bounce lands though, Horn of Greed and Exploration are really good options!

If somehow this had haste (Fervor perhaps), then couldn't you activate the second ability in response to the first?

If so, that's a reusable, blue creature destruction every turn!

I play Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. It's 15/15 with annihilator 6. You die soon.

*Tap* OK, it's a sheep.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whenever i see this card activate i always have to let out a loud 'BAAAAAAAA!'. Someone has to respond to the awesomeness of the card.

Use with Sneak Attack. Instant destruction for {r}. use Sneak Attack to put Ovinomancer into play and then in response to the triggered ability, activate it's ability and return it to your hand.

Great fun in a Necrotic Ooze deck.

Get it into your graveyard (cast it and sac it if you can't mill it or discard it),
then Ooze gains the ability to bounce itself and (permanently) Ovinize something at the same time.

No way. I didn't realize this until today, but not only did Kev Walker illustrate everyone's favourite "LOL SHEEPED" wizard - he also illustrated the one and only Sheep token.

Baaaaaaa.

That's a hefty price to pay to turn your opponent's creatures into sheep. A price I am willing to pay.

@applecorn
You seriously think that hes gonna play without lands?

For the record, I think he should exile instead of destroying. Makes a bit more sense. This way you can raise the guy from the graveyard.

In fact, you could target an indestructible guy and just give your opponent sheep tokens.

The flavor and art on this guy are Great, but the cost is hilariously prohibitive.

That art. Haha oh man.

I would play this purely for the shenanigans. However this wouldn't be so bad in a G/U landfall deck with rite of flourishing or something like that. I play sorotami savant and it's actually pretty good in that role. Of course this would be strictly casual and multiplayer only. I like the idea of saying "hahaha...it looks like that's now Emrakul, the Aeons SHORN!"

Ok lame.

Anyway, can someone explain the reasoning why he has to throw a smokebomb down and vanish whenever he makes the sheep?

Also, TIM!

What if you don't have any basic lands in the battlefield when ovinomancer enters it. Can you choose to return basic lands and let the ability fail or would you be forced to sac the ovinomancer?
TheWrathofShane

Fervor would be a good way to use him.

@JuQ
No, if you fail to return 3 basic lands to your hand, he is getting sacrificed. Keyword here is "unless". If he had haste though, could bounce himself while the trigger is on the stack, and then it will fizzle because you cant sacrifice him.

Very powerful if you can give it haste. Sneak Attack was already mentioned, but any other good haste source will work too

In EDH/Commander, throw in pair of Lightning Greaves or Swiftfoot Boots and this becomes an Ovinize'ing machine gun!

Holy mother of drawbacks. Turning just about any creature into the weakest chump blocker possible is strong, sure, but its not worth returning 3 lands to your hand, having a turn of delay, and being extremely vulnerable to any removal yourself-for each activation!
