This prevention is largely irrelevant on creatures, this is even worse...especially since it doesn't tap for mana...

Agreed. You'd think it would add a colorless or possibly even blue mana. As is, completely useless.

remember when it was made.. lands didn't have to make mana then. And it was relevant as the anti-Desert, a destructive card at the time.

Now, yes it is garbage. But if this were to add 1 and have ability, and be common.. then it would be a limited powerhouse; even today. Even if there was "2, tap: prevent 1 dmg to a creature"!

I got it!

Use this with Darksteel Garrison: you can tap Oasis to prevent one damage to a creature and also pump it's toughness, effectively preventing 2 damage. You're Oasis will be indestructable, so you're opponent will be helpless to stop you from doing it! Mark my words, you're going to be seeing this format-shattering combination in the best Legacy decks.

Death Pits of Wrath + Pestilence + Oasis + any creature. Once per turn use pestilence to clear the field and then attack constantly

If mana comes from life or energy (in general), than why does Oasis not provide any mana, but even cards like Wasteland and Desert do? Another victim of the random card generator, I suppose.

Too bad it doesn't tap for one colorless, would be quite decent if it did.

Even if this could add mana, it would still be worse than Desert.
