Yup, that's the best use for this card, otherwise it's a decent combat trick...Also this is a great merging of the color pie, red gets to do +X/+0, while blue gets to do -X/-0...

I suddenly think it would be hilarious (but not useful) to have the following card:

Variable Mutation - WUBR

Target creature gets +4/+0
Target creature gets -4/-0
Target creature gets -0/-4
Target creature gets +0/+4

And it's completely useless if there's only one creature in play because it would be all the targets.
