The art for this card is one of the reasons why I started playing the game. I don't play B/W, but DAMN that is impressive, isn't it?

This artwork makes me cream. Not the best card ever but not that bad either, at least hes a 2/2 bear with some decent abilities, especially late game.

The second ability is useful, but both are expensive. However, combine with Training Ground they become very, very nasty. Thx to the cost, this card could easily go into a B/U or W/U that utilizes Training Ground. 2/2 for two isn't bad either.

Well, the art, is nice, the card sucks though. A 2/2 for two mana, requiring even two colored mana is not playable. It's special ailities are bad too. Three mana to gain one life is horrible, and three mana to make each player lose one life is bad as well. Good art, unplayable card.

Ignoring black entirely, this would make a great addition to a lifegain deck that splashes for Training Grounds.
This with Training Grounds and Ajani's Pridemate equals a reusable ": +1/+1 counter" at instant speed.

It's not bad. I mean, black doesn't 2/2 for two mana anyway, and if it's in a B/W, all the better for you. The abilities are a bit steep, but they're powerful too. I wouldn't have them cost any less on a cost/body ratio like that.
Edit: It's also some of the best art that has ever been printed on a card, and the contrasting Black and White colors are very evocative.
Overall, spot-on card design, and a proud addition to the Guildmage family.

This card seems to be getting some undeserved dislike. For a very affordable , you get a 2/2 creature with a good color combo and two useful abilities. It is debatable that they are overpriced, but keep in mind that they can both be used without having to which makes him somewhat useful late game with a lot of available mana. This all sounds like a very fair deal to me.
Not quite a 5 star card, yet it is a fair costed two drop and thats quite a feat being that it's black. No matter how you feel about it's playability, the art is amazing. It is however a real shame this wasn't printed with some equally good flavor text to support Mr. Staples' wonderous artwork. 4/5

I would have like it more if its white ability were "Each player gains 1 life" for the simmetry, or "Target player gains 2 life", so you can effectively drain 1 life paying ...
Great art, so-so creature. A vanilla 2/2 for is quite ok, so the abilities aren't to complain at... I uses a couple of them in my Orzhov deck because I need White and Black creature to sacrifice for Teysa, and this is the only cheap creature in Ravnica for this (beside Mourning Thrull)
