All of my friends seem to think this card is good, no matter how much I try and tell them it blows.

Streamhopper, regenerate prevents the card from being destroyed, so there's no combo. At least, I'm pretty sure there isn't
A weird card with a form of psuedo-evasion. Still overpriced. Maybe for 2 mana.

Seems like Murderous Redcap goes with this idea and takes it just a bit further. Although Infectious Host is simply 'lose life' as oppose to target-able damage, which there are ways to prevent.
I agree with Designer_Genes. When I first started playing I thought this was one of the best cards out there, along with the cycle of Slith (especially Slith Firewalker). Then I got a rule book, which had Liliana Vess in it...

better than blistergrub because this one is a zombie, I don't know of very many cards that care weather or not your a horror but I know plenty of cards that want you to be a zombie. however upon seeing murderous redcaps I think I want that one most

Give it persist, or alternatively undying, which shouldn't be hard to do.
@Supershawn: I'm going to propose to you two cards. One is a 1/1 Black Zombie for 4. The other is a 4/4 Black Wombat for 1. Which is better?
Obviously the zombie, because there are plenty of cards that like if your card is a zombie, but none that care if it's a wombat. That is what you are saying. Blistergrub has twice the power and toughness, twice the life-loss that also hits all opponents, and swampwalk. Tribe can't make up for that. Infectious Host is terrible, end of story.
Yes, yes: Geralf's Messenger is better. It's also a rare, and commanded a decent price while it was in Standard. It's dropped since it rotated out, but the point is that casual players aren't necessarily going to run out and spend several dollars on one card. This is a common creature that can chump block, and shocks your opponent when it dies. That's not bad, folks. I think it's a decent card for budget/pauper builds.
