Generally, most decks that would want to use a Blaze effect or a Braingeyser effect would prefer to have either of the aforementioned cards.

This is either an overcosted Blaze or an overcosted Mind Spring... I can't see it being incredibly useful...

The thing is: it's utility. It can be used for either which means if you want 4 mind spring and 4 blaze spells in your deck, you don't have to waste 8 slots; only 4. Very few cards offer this kind of flexibility.

Why the heck would you need blaze AND braingeyser/mind spring? Decks don't need that many bombs.

If this had a cheap entwine cost (like 1 mana), then it might've been playable. But it's just too expensive.

You rarely need both Blaze and Mindspring. But it's pretty frequently that you'll need one or the other. It's still not an awesome card, but it has its uses.

For everyone saying that it isn't useful, i think that this card was made to go with Cloven Casting it basically makes it better than Blaze and Braingeyser

It would be flexable if it was XBR, at needing 4 mana to do 1 damage or draw a card... Hell No.

with Niv-Mizzet in play, there is no difference between knowledge and flame.
so choose knowledge! draw=burn yay!

at this cost it could have been both.

Yea its expensive but i like it beter then mind springs in my R/U deck. It gives me the choice mid/lategame to either burn or draw. If it costs XUR it would have been great.

This needs Replicate BlueRed badly!

This was a fun and decent card, but today it can probably be AND instead of OR and still be fair.

While expensive, this could've been almost decent if it were just an Instant.

Its a Niv-Mizzet card, and like most of their cards, becomes most useful and devastating when Niv-Mizzet is on the field. Alot of you dont seem to think about these older cards along side the rest of their set.

Purple Sun's Zenith? Would've gotten extra flavour points from me if it costed U/R,U,R instead of UUR, plus it would've looked cooler on the card.

if any ones ever enlargened the image they would probly recondize the person casting the spell it's Ral Zerak.

I run this is in an Izzetron alongside a Molten Disaster and Spell Burst as my X spells. With Niv-Mizzet in the deck, it's soooo hard not to run this card for flavour alone. Plus, the ability to target creature, player, or draw cards has won me some games.

I know I should probably use Banefire or something, but I can't seem to part with this!

Nice card, and a lot of sinergy with Niv-Mizzet, obviously...! Maybe a cost of Variable ColorlessBlueRed wouldn't have made it overpowered, I think. Sadly, because I like it very much! Maybe if they had included a third choise, like "or gain control of target creature with converted mana cost X or less.", and ability that Blue and Red share, even if in red is only until end of turn but since there are 2 blue mana in its mana cost, maybe...

I play a couple of copy in my Izzet deck, and it perform quite well, in the late game.

Edit: WOW! With my vote, now its rating is 3.333, with 33 votes! Perfect!

Pretty good for its versatility, just hope you draw it later on. I liked throwing one of these in my U/R, and its won me games but now i like to toss in the more epic (imo) prophetic bolt instead.

nonetheless, cool card - versatility is nice. Creature burn, Player finisher, card drawer if need be.Think of it as something you drop with 7+ mana.

Ral Zarek! Looks like good ol' Niv was a friend of his, before his planeswalking days

I am not impressed personally. I like having options, but this is just a wee bit too expensive. Most infinite mana decks would rather Banefire or Blue Sun's Zenith

I would have liked to see it this way:

Variable ColorlessBlueBlueRedRed
Target player draws X cards, invoke the Firemind does X damage to another target creature or player.

Or perhaps this (Possibly overpowered) one:

Variable ColorlessBlueRed
Choose one: target player draws X cards, or Invoke the Firemind deals X damage to target creature or player.

Boo this should uncommon and could even cost U less

lets take XUR in a few examples

1UR : Draw one card (not very good)
2UR : Draw two card (seems about one notch and a half downgraded from similar card)
3UR: Draw Three cards (no complaints here)
4UR : Draw four card (this could be a card, a decent common/uncommon one even)

and so on

as a burn card its pretty poor also

The versatility might please some but I think its runs poorly
