I'm surprised they haven't just errataed him to Snake Archer Monk, not like it matters much. A must-have in any snake deck. Makes Winged Coatl a 3/3 flash, flying, deathtouch. Empowers Lorescale Coatl for every extra draw you make. Turns Ohran Viper into an annoying 3/5 card fetcher. Etc, etc.

There's actually a lot of really good snakes in Magic...Lotus Cobra, River Boa, Mire Boa, Mystic Snake, etc.
So a Snake tribal deck actually looks pretty neat.
