So at the low low cost of losing a monster, you can... Lose a monster! Is there an actual combo here with Egotist (or with anything), or are they just being silly?
Gradius: Well, I suppose if you've got a card making use of Egotist's massive mana cost that requires him in your hand... But overall I think they're just being silly about both of them being overcosted and useless.
Kami's ability can actually be useful, but it's true Vedalken Mastermind kicks his butt.

Great artwork, but it doesn't seem fair that we don't get to choose any creature when we sacrifice this guy.
Man-o'-War or Æther Adept (if we want to compare somewhat strong tribal types) cost the same (the Jellyfish is even easier to cast for just a single blue mana), have the same body, and their effect is the same - except not restricted to creatures on your side! The difference is that their ability triggers when they enter the battlefield. That can even be advantageous since obviously if you don't have to sacrifice them you'll keep their body. That's not the case regarding the Kami. Sure, timing is on your side. But Seal of Removal doesn't cost more than Unsummon, does it?
This would have made an interesting Spirit that way. Yes, this would synergize with Soulshift - but this card would be still far from broken, so why the restriction to creatures we control?
It's a sad thing that so many Spirits in Kamigawa were underpowered, Spiritcraft decks could have been far more interesting...

At least the ability is a manaless activation. Leaving a blue open to make use of Rescue effects that you end up not playing is a huge waste of mana and tempo. And a 2/2 for three mana is not unplayable if you can make use of its ability. Seems alright in Kami limited.
