A low-cost first strike creature in red is good in a set with lots of equipment. At least for limited purposes, anyway.

Sword of the meek anyone!
Krark-Clan stoker, sword of the meek, arcbound crusher, and goblin striker, these four cards form the basis of my sword of the meek deck, only non mirrodin card in it being 4 copies of sword of the meek. im sure if they named it something else other than meek memnarch would have seen some potential in it and transported it into mirrodin for this tiny guy to wield...

I think it's funny how the flavor text contradicts itself with another flavor text from the same set.
Detonate states: "The goblins have forty-two different words for 'ow.'"
Then again we're just talking about interjections here, so maybe the goblin language consist of shouts which describe their pain and the pain they caused to communicate? :D
(On the other hand, Goblins from Mirrodin doesn't seem that stupid, at least some of them the potential to become pretty smart.)

There is no flavour text contradiction. Just because the goblins have no word for "word" doesn't mean they have no words at all.

"Completely outdone by Ash Zealot. "

Ok, so the one is an RedRed CMC, is rare, and is not a goblin. This one is 1Red (more splashable), a common (cheaper and easier to obtain, not to mention pauper formats), and is a golbin (a VERY relavant tribe).

Different enough to both exist, and the new one is not strictly better.

Spiritmonger accidentally stepped on one of these once. He didn't notice.
