If this wasn't a 6/6 for CMC 4, it'd go straight in the trash. The monstrous ability stinks because you're pay 10 for an 8/8 with reach that dies to unblocked combat damage. This is a glorified Wall. Would be 10x better if it had vigilance.

This guy is so close to being good, but even with a mana ramp you can't get him out before turn 3 and anybody with creature advantage or fliers is likely to risk throwing something away to get rid of it. Most blue decks can pretend like this guy isn't even there.
This guy should be smaller and 3CMC, or as is at G3 so he can be better protected by a secondary color.

I would have liked him a lot better if he had no monstrosity ability, but instead had vigilance and reach. Though he might have to be rare then.

Even if you do swing with him on turn 5. If he gets through, he is 1 mana cheaper, and 1 damage stronger lava axe, even if it does die to unblocked damage.
If he lives longer than that, it's a pretty big threat.
Begs to be launched with Messenger's Speed on turn 5.

A 4 drop for a 6/6? That can turn into an 8/8 with reach? Yeah it's worthless against unblockables and deathtouch critters, but I'll take this cheap bruiser. What other 6/6 guys are less than 6 mana? That's what I thought. I will say this though. Do not play him against a red deck with spells. You will have a bad day.

So, clearly this has a drawback. Which means you need to find out where you can use this to ignore the drawback; honestly, it seems pretty simple to me. Sideboard tech vs. control for decks not running desecration demon.
