@stygim: it's not good by today's standard. Today 3 mana gets you a Woolly Thoctar or Leatherback Baloth

Three coloured mana gets you Woolly Thoctar or Leatherback Baloth. Being an artifact in addition to it's other types sadly makes it more susceptible to removal...still a good card though

Wouldn't it make more sense for a sword to have more attack than toughness?

It's an unattached sword which has no more mass behind its attacks than what it weights, so 1 for attack is fine. The 5 for defence comes not from toughness but from agility: it mimics how hard this is to hit.
