This is a reference to Plato's Allegory of the People in the Cave. See, the Cave People knew nothing of the world except for a flickering shadow on the wall. So when they did a Theros draft, they didn't know any better than to draft overcosted cards like this, because card advantage is always good in limited, right? Anyway, Socrates wrote a sequel called People of the Cave 2: Shadows United, but it didn't do as well.

Aw, man? Mill? Mill is what we get stapled to our overcosted common card draw? What, did I happen to get a Ashiok in my other pack or something? There's not even remotely enough support for mill to even be marginally relevant!

Gimme up to one target creature gets -2/-0 or hell, put a 1/1 into play, SOMETHING.

You know, I could play this...or I could play Divination and Tome Scour for a better effect that costs 2 less.

The goal of the mill part is to use it in this game to mess up your opponent's plans when they're Scrying for answers.

I was glancing through the card list and at first I thought this said "Thassa's Bunny".

With Opportunity from M14 around, there really is no reason to bother playing this weak car.

Mill's still playable in standard. Also, this can be splashed in a graveyard shenanigans deck.

@Fenix
How much horse power do you expect a clam to have?

Wow, that's some stellar artwork. Really great use of colors. Too bad it's one if the worst cards in the set. Not even good enough for blue in Limited, honestly. The mill stapled to this is incredibly lazy, and if it was for messing up scry, then it could have at least been instant speed.

Oh well, at least Thassa got the coolest Emissary.

How much you want to bet this card was originally "Draw three, Scry three" and Development killed it because, well, obviously... The card as printed is super weak in limited and competitive constructed, sure, but y'know, my kitchen table flashback deck is fairly happy to have a draw six for six now. :)

Hey, at least the card has a nontrivial legitimate use somewhere, which is about as much as you can ask of a common that's clearly meant to be a really bad common.

I really want to like this card because it is balanced for what it does. Yes, it could have been instant speed though because card draw becomes less relevant later in the game when you may not survive long enough to cast said spells and tapping out in blue to do so invites trouble. Instant speed would have made this card playable - a one-of in a deck. "Sorcery" kinda makes me grind my teeth in frustration and makes me think twice about including one. I like playing cards just to see them work so I will probably throw in one sooner or later.

Note: I love the shield made of coral. It would have to be holy coral though cuz coral isn't that strong compared to a blade.
The giant scrying pearl is pretty awesome too.

It has a place in self mill. You draw your rescue from the underworld, and the mill gives you something to rescue. Besides that I have to agree with Fenix. Opportunity makes this irrelevant in most decks.

Eh, it's a decent draw spell in lategame limited. If you're lucky, your opponent scried last turn and grinned evilly as they replaced the top card of their deck to be drawn next turn.
