Comparison to Hull Breach:

Pros:
If you're only hitting an artifact it costs the same, but it's instant.
If you're only hitting an enchantment it's cheaper AND is instant.
More flexible cost.

Cons:
If you want to hit an artifact AND an enchantment it'll cost 1 more.

Overall I'd say this is the better of the two, and Hull Breach was already a great card. I think this is one of the best designed cards of the set.

Solid Sideboard and Commander card.

This was the first fuse card that really caught my eye. Really aggressive destruction, and easy to use for a 2-for-1!

So it's half of a naturalize in twice the colors at 1.5 times the cost?

GO GREEN!

@Totema: Completely agree. I have no strong affinity for Boros (the colour combination) but I admire the versatility and power level of this card.

Now this is a well-designed split fuse card! If you're running both colors, then you have no reason to play Shatter or Demystify, and you get the option for enchantment removal - Smelt is 1 less than Wear, but can't touch enchantments. One of the most straightforward, no-nonsense split cards in the set.

About the hull breach comparison, I think that hull breach is superior.

While I prefer instants, hull breach is raw card advantage, AND costs less mana to boot.

Still, this card is alright, as a sideboard card in limited, or in some casual constructed decks in standard. Outside standard, I'd stick to orims thunder and similiar stuff.

Apparently giants don't like Street Sweepers much.

You know what? I actually want to see Shatter reprinted in the future because it gets shitted on by so many cards... I kinda feel bad for it :/

Look up "sideboard" in the dictionary, and there's a picture of this. Boros didn't really NEED this, but it sure helps.

In your hand, better than Disenchant. Out of your Sunforger, still not bad.

@majinara With this card, you can do BOTH. That's right, BOTH. It can do the same thing as Hull Breach but for one extra mana to pay for it being instant speed. And if there's only one thing to kill, this card is even more efficient than Hull Breach. Did you even read the card?

My only problem with this card is that every time I draw it, my opponents know what it is, because I always tilt my head slightly...

@RAV0004: Incorrect. At worst, this card costs 1.0 times a naturalize. At best, it costs half. Naturalize is strictly an OR for 2 CMC, whereas Wear // Tear is an OR for 1 or 2 CMC, or an AND for 3 CMC. If color isn't an issue, consider this card strictly better than naturalize.

I guess Shatter // Demistify just wasn't as snappy of a name.

Strictly better than Shatter and Demystify.

Edit: If Owen Turtenwald's showing at GP Washington is anything to go by, this is Legacy-playable. Just a one-of in the sideboard, but it was in a tournament-winning deck. This card's utility cannot be denied.

Being able to hull breach at instant speed is strong. R/W isn't very spell oriented so I prefer Duergar Hedge-Mage in my deck, but I could see it being more useful in some situations.

Such a sweet card. In a boros deck, it is like an upgraded disenchant. I love that they used this weird, potentially complex mechanic (fuse) to make such a nice, simple, and elegant card.
