This card will be pretty good for some late game reach in some boros decks. Instant tokens are always good!

To be fair, Selesnya Guildmage:

1) is within the color of green, they make quick, massive mana like no tomorrow.
2) could also be played with two different colors instead of requiring both colors of the guild.
3) its ability adds 1 toughness, where Sunhome Guildmage does not.
4) Saproling has its own tribal.

That said, Sunhome Guildmage by itself is indeed more powerful than Selesnya Guildmage.

First ability is a nice complement to Legion Loyalist because of the first striking and the second ability can enable battalion each turn with 8 mana. Solid card.

This wins slow games. Boros hates playing slow games. That said, limited is still a thing, and most guildmages work better in limited than constructed, anyway.

Moonveil Dragon does his first spell for Red, and the second ability is better used by Assemble the Legion. Ofcourse, this card has both of these abilities "in one", and can't be compared to rares and mythics. Great in limited I would say! 4/5

The three mana team firebreathing is rather lacking in all honesty. With six mana you can only give your team +2/+0, and when you're playing Boros as a speed deck, that's not what you want. Screw this thing I say.

Looks fairly weak, but remember that Battalion is a thing in limited, and this greatly aids you in triggering it. Every turn.

This guy is not bad. In constructed, he is probably a little too weak, but there are things he's really good at. I like that he is a solid mana dump in the late game for a colour combination that can easily run out of cards.

The biggest reason I like cards like this is that they can really be a nuisance to control decks that rely on counterspells. If you land this guy early (turn 2 is quite reasonable), they are going to have a hard time countering him. If they want to leave their board almost empty and just keep mana open to counter stuff, you can just keep dumping mana and punishing them.

i put this guy in a token deck just as filler and he has turned out to be a rockstar! I use my mana on his abilities early to save my one/two drop damage cards, so I can drop a blaze commando followed by a few lightning bolts and a grapeshot. If that doesn't finish it off, just use his first ability twice the next turn to pump your army.

suppose you have him in a battalion deck and you pop him out turn ... two and by turn four you are ready to engage.

lets assume you have:
2 Boros Elite
1 Akroan Hoplite

Straight away thats 6+4= 10 damage.
Now calculating that you you used this guy to pump them up, it would be an extra 3 damage total

So now, instead of swinging for 10 you're swinging for 13 turn four.

I like the guildmages; they aren't overly effective, but they are versatile cards that provide some options late game when you run out of cards, or early game if you don' t have anything better to cast. At worst, this is a 2/2 blocker for 2. In a typical boros deck, however, the effects of this card can ramp pretty quickly.

I love the way cards from Theros, like Phalanx Leader, play off the Ravnica cards pretty well, which can seem rather underwhelming at times.
