A decent trick, sometimes. It can save you in combat, but Martial Glory is almost always better for that. It doesn't stop "destroy" removal like Grisly Spectacle, and it fails to protect your creature from the "can't block this turn" half of Mugging.
It would be worth the price of admission to see someone lose their creature because their opponent responded to this spell with Skullcrack.
