It would be cheaper to untap him with Aphetto Alchemist and just do his ability a second time than to play for his threshold cost.

Most of the time, this is basically a black Prodigal Sorcerer, and some of the time it will be much stronger. The card's only real weakness is the casting cost which demands double black. All-in-all, a very strong card.
