This card looks like it would be a big contender for the worst rare in odyssey, but fact is that odyssey has so many utterly horrible rares that paying 2B to play a spell that does nothing is nowhere as bad as other rares in the set that are the equivalent of shooting you in your foot!

Guys, guys, guys, we need this card to keep relentless rats out of significant tournament play

For 2 mana, this would be a decent sideboard card for those rare decks that get multiple copies of the same card into their player's hand, and could combo with bounce. At three mana, it needs a combo with a bounce spell to discard 2 cards, and black already has a 3 mana discard spell which discards 2 cards (without requireing bounce-prep).

Wow, zk3 has got a pretty good point there, despite the fact that this card sucks at pretty much everything else that destroying Relentless Rats.
On the other hand, although the card might suck, I find its flavor text rather amusing.

Nonland is what really makes this nonsense.

Yeah, this card needs luck to be played or else this will not do much.

This looks like it could be good for Spikes with only 9 different cards in their 60-card deck.

Dude, guys.
This is an EDH staple card....
Okay, not really...

HINT of insanity? That's a polite way of putting it, based on the art. Give me a mind rot common over this rare.

Guys, guys. Every card has a use. Jester's Mask their hand into all duplicates (as much as possible, anyway) then BAM.
It would be better if it had a cantrip. Or even better - it lets both players draw three cards or something before attacking their hand.

Just to be sure does this card get rid of the card you select as well or just other cards with the selected cards name. If it does include the selected card it would be perfect in a living end deck only cards you care about getting rid of are mass destruction cards and counterpells. The main point being counterspell and if it can get rid of all hte counterspells in their hand that would be just dandy.
I GUESS if you have a card that lets you look at their hand it could work. If they MAYBE have more than one of a certain card in their hand, and it just so HAPPENS to be one you don't really want. But in the mean time, it will sit in your hand, being a massive waste of space that could have been something that is not Hint of Insanity.

Hey I run x4 of everything in my decks, this card could cause me to discard my entire hand on turn 1 if dark ritual. 2.5/5 has the potential to be game ending, but most likely will be a mind rot + reveal or no dice.
Some minor fixes could have made this at least a playable card - as it is, there is a real possibility of spending 3 mana on NOTHING. Making this a more powerful Coercion would have at least rendered it more playable.
Fixed Hint of Insanity: Target player reveals his or her hand. You choose a card from it. That player discards that card, and then discards all cards with the same name as that card.
Sure, you lose some of the spirit of the card, but it at least guarantees you never pay 3 mana for nothing. And seeing that Odyssey was a graveyard set, you could also use it on yourself to meet threshold or activate flashback, etc. While not amazing, it'd at least be playable.

I actually know someone who put this into their EDH deck. Of course, another guy in our group plays a demon deck with Shadowborn Apostle, so it kind of makes sense.

Seriously though, you'd be lucky if this hits one card on average.
But at what cost?
Wait... what?
