Monster in Limited. Sadly too expensive for serious tournament play.

someone explain the flavor of his one toughness. I don't care how reckless a fighter he is, look at that *** armor. *** utilikilt and everything.

Never seen a worse legend. Can be killed by Bird of Paradise with a Skullclamp on it.

That'd be true if it didn't die the moment it put on the clamp...or get killed by Kamahl in response. Anyway, no idea on the the flavor question...

If he couldn't be killed by every card with the word "sparkmage" in its name, maybe it would be better...

He doesn't come into play. He comes into win.

Actually, the skullclampwould kill your bird, a niceBonesplitter would have done the job.

I think sometimes it is best to think of discrepancies in power and toughness as being a reflection of how reckless someone is, instead of how much armor someone is wearing. All the plate armor in the world isn't going to help much if you immediately rush the largest formation closest to you. Kamahl is a barbarian legend with a giant two-handed sword- he doesn't want to waste time thinking about his opponents' counterattack! That is time better spent hewing them limb from limb! As a direct result he is reckless, and prone to counterattack.

"I didn't come to play. I came to die immediately."

So it seems to be controversial for what he came for.
I say the important thing that matters is: He came.

I also don't understand how a pit fighter can never win a fight in battle, sure he can kill them before they get a chance (some times), First Strike would of made a lot more sense for a Pit fighter, and correct the flavour of the card (being that he can only die to magic's, a fighters true enemy)

@BalonyPony: A birds cannot wear the skull clamp, although the 2 extra cards are nice. very nice.

I think a lot of people are missing the point. With his haste and taping ability that's at least three damage he's doing. Before you put him into combat burn all the opposing small fry creatures. And he's one of the few creatures that can ping for three. Also the haste makes him a surprise which means that when he comes out there is a good chance he can get in for 6 to the face that turn. And like I said even if he can't somethings guaranteed to take 3.

@ Mode: That's what she said.

Red Kamahl could definitely be a fun Commander if you can find a way to keep him alive- 3 general damage every turn including the turn he comes in? Nice. Too bad he costs so much.

@Ideatog - Non-combat damage doesn't count as general damage. Sorry, guys.

Seeing his art in a magazine when I was a kid is what got me into magic.

My best bet on the flavour is that he's completely reckless and fights with no thought to defense if thrown into direct melee combat. The tap ability represents a more measured fighting style, yielding less damage in exchange for unbeatable defensive advantage (the opposing target doesn't even get a CHANCE to fight back!)

Stabbing Pain would even take him out. The joke is that any of us are probably 1/1 or 2/2 creatures in MTG standards. He would just lightning bolt us in the face before we had a chance to attack. Unless we're a pinger as well :)

MTG Player uses Spitball, it's SUPER EFFECTIVE!! Kamahl faints!

Still this dude is a lightning bolt engine for 6 mana. Give him a runechanter's pike and clear a blocker out the way for some serious damage.

you can get all caught up with the 1 toughness for various reasons but admit it, he's cool

Remember, he's a surprise 6 damage. Haste is not always considered when leaving yourself open for blockers. That being said, give him one more toughness, then he'd have a little more utility.
