Not many red flying creatures, so abusing this with fliers seems unlikely to happen. Other than that, Smoke would probably work better in decks dedicated to keeping creatures tapped.

Rather than playing in red, this seems like something you'd splash in blue control.Levitation can keep your guys out of the Mudslide. Throw in something like an Icy Manipulator and you'll really slow people down.
Throw some white into it and you can drop Sunblast Angel for some mass graveyard filling.
Be creative.
