This card is overpowered in a mono-black deck. 2BB for a 2/3 flying creature with both deathtouch AND lifelink? Lifelink is a white ability. This card should be rare, not uncommon. Funny thing is, the rating is under 4 when it is so broken already.

This card is my nemesis! So good! Yet so overpowered. He demands attention the second he hits the board. This guy would be good for , the fact he comes out a turn before my Sanctum Gargoyle is scary to me.
@RDorothy Lifelink is secondary in black, and fits the Vampire flavor very well, I think.

Since there's lots of comparisons in the other comments: Honestly, I'd rather have this guy poking me for 2 a turn than Hypnotic Specter. Losing even one card randomly from my hand can wreck my strategy, whereas a total life swing of 4 can be survived for a couple turns while I try to draw an answer.
I'm glad Wizards makes cards like this uncommon more frequently nowadays. It's nice to get a playset of cool playable Vampires by just cracking some packs instead of pulling up eBay.
I like that this vamp's a Shaman. It's a neat, unexpected flavor that also justifies the abilities -- it seems like the lifelink and deathtouch come from this supposedly-spiritless creature of the night's spiritual connection to the natural world. You can imagine Nighthawk ritualistically self-painting shamanistic markings along its own arms while it sits in your hand, waiting to be cast into the world.
Come on. There has to be some sort of conspiracy or Internet-Meme thing going on (like the whole Storm Crow thing, as amazing at it is). This card is in no way bad.
Maybe some people think it's not good enough because it is Lightning Boltable. However, it's just for 3 CMC, so that isn't as bad a trade as if you lost your Gigantomancer like that.
Maybe it's because it is 2 black and 1 colourless, but if you're complaining about that, then Phyrexian Obliterator should have a rating of 2/5.
I see nothing wrong with it, and yet, it isn't too that broken. A staple for ANY black strategy as well as any other deck with black in it (except the Coalition deck, of course)

My favorite vamp ever, deserves having many multiples in any vampire deck. He's cheap, reasonably strong and has three abilities. Mix that with Captivating Vampire or Lord of Lineage and his toughness is even less of an issue. As for why he's a shaman I've always assumed that it was wizards way of explaining why he has flying, lifelink and deathtouch. Honestly, that's the only possible explanation for all of his abilities, he's magic. I especially love Skeletal Grimace, makes Nighthawk extremely useful and hard to kill.

There is too much value for the cost packed in this card. Just like in Phyrexian Obliterator or Grave Titan. Not good for the color balance to combine best creatures and best creature removal in same single color. 1/5 in total scope.

This is without a doubt my favorite card in my vampire deck, especially when you can get a Lashwrithe and a Blade of the Bloodchief on him. I keep four of him in my deck, and power his ass up. Even if they have fliers to block with, he has deathtouch and lifelink.

If your running mono black, and the format permits it, there is no reason in the world not to run 4. Hes that powerful. The only reason if you want to run 0 creatures for some strategic reason. Even if hes your only 4 creatures hes better then any wall you will find. Can block flyers, gain health, and has deathtouch. He really should have been a rare, and increase his power to 3/3 and it would be a serious mythic candidate.

A lot of people are dogging this card and I guess I can see why. Being on the receiving end of this guys grief is not fun. Im convinced he was made uncommon instead of rare for the casual players. Its awesome to have a guy with this low of cmc that's so easy to get ahold of. He is good enough to build a deck around. Thanks WotC for showing some casual love!

Mono-black control is definitely viable for Standard play soon, if it wasn't already with Geralf's Messenger and Phyrexian Obliterator.
