Great choice in Political Puppets; keep it to defend, or give it away to save the bottom of some player who will help you out later...and be unable to attack back with your defender jellyfish

Don't know why it has a rating of below 4 (well, it's basically 4). Works great in any blue control or combo kind of deck. Gomazoa only costs 2U, meaning that if your deck even runs very little blue you should still be able to cast this with relative consistency.

I've played with this card, it's a beast. Every combat phase where your opponent is attacking, think of it like a Maze of Ith of sorts - whatever creature you choose to block will basically not get through unless they waste a burn spell on this guy, which by itself is pretty epic because you've caused your opponent to waste a burn on a creature, and every burn spell can count in a burn vs combo matchup.

I hope this card will be reprinted as soon as rise of eldrazi goes out of standart.

This is magnificent blue blocker that can block 99% of creatures without harm, rendering even most powerful fats without trample useless.

+ immune to deathtouch
+ only 3 mana cost
+ awesome with Basilisk Collar and/or Echo Circlet.

what happens to trample damage?

The trampler has to assign a minimum of 3 dmg to the Gomazoa (unless the trampler has deathtouch, in which case only 1 dmg needs to be assigned). The dmg done to Gomazoa is prevented, but any trample damage still hits the player.

Lethal damage is defined as damage greater than or equal to a creature's toughness. You can't choose to assign 1 damage with a creature with deathtouch and then trample the rest over. You would still have to assign 3 damage to Gomazoa.

I think I prefer this over Fog Bank. It cost 1 more, but you get quite a bit for that. It can deal damage to what it blocks, and with 3 toughness it's even a pretty decent blocker against trample. Also makes it a little harder to kill with direct damage.

@CuriousThing
Any nonzero amount of damage from a creature with deathtouch counts as lethal damage. So yes a creature with both deathtouch and trample is allowed to assign just 1 damage to a blocker. Which is probably why there aren't any creatures that have both naturally.

Ok question for all where this card's effect is concerned, Q: If this creature blocks a creature with trample does trample damage assign to controller if damage is over the defense of the creature?

Rule 615.6. If damage that would be dealt is prevented, it never happens.
A modified event may occur instead, which may in turn trigger abilities.
Note that the modified event may contain instructions that can’t be carried
out, in which case the impossible instruction is simply ignored.

Now as 702.18. Trample, does not exclusivly state that for this instance, it does state that if damage exceeds creatures defense then assign remaining to controller.

I wickedly miss this card. It's one of my favorite blue cards ever, great for control. I remember one time I actually held off Emrakul for a couple of turns with one of them, unfortunately the ridiculous annihilator 6 quickly defeated me anyway. )=
