It's a 4/4 flier for . The wonky ability is mostly irrelevant.

3.5 stars? Seriously? This guys a beast. I run two in my mono blue control along with two copies of his Zendikar cousin, Sphinx of Jwar Isle. A 4/4 for is way over the curve, and that "drawback" is an advantage if you play it right. The other Sphinx's ability, Halimar Depths, Ponder, Preordain, and other Scry effects are ways to keep taps on your top card. If he's being attacked flash an Eel Umbra on him. And nothings better than watching your opponents bomb go to the bottom of their library. Easy 5 stars.
Amusingly, combo with Moonring Island as probably the easiest enabler available.

So, it's a 4/4 flyer for 4 in blue... with a random drawback/ability that you can also benefit from if you just bother to play some cards that let you peek ahead as many blue cards do. Yep, that's pretty good!

It's really amusing when this hits and you manage to guess right, other than that, hes still a 4/4 flyer, which is OK. 4/5 Stars

If there is any color that allows you to know what card is on top of your library with ease, it's blue. This sphinx is so good, while also being fun, which earns 4.5/5 from me.
I use it in a ramp deck. I drop Sphinx of Jwar Isle the turn after I play this and proceed to gain steady card advantage while smacking the crap out of people. Such great tempo!
