why is this card rated so highly? black knight, and a number of othe black creature cards offer better protection and power for the CMC. Second ability is really significant in rebel tribal?

Rebels were (and are) the strongest Archtype of Masques constructed (or at least were until Lin Sivvi became the only banned legendary creature outside of EDH).

The ability of this creature, I suppose given its color, was meant as a way to deal with Rebel deck, but it was ironically used in a Rebel deck to save creatures from dying, only to search them out again with existing Rebel. I give it a 3.5/5 due to its narrow theme but boy, it was such a powerful card in the right deck. Even if Rebel is white, you can search this card out so casting was never an issue.

Pretty bad. Putting Rebels on the bottom isn't that good when Rebels are so good at tutoring.

The actual point of this card against rebel decks is pretty simple, guys. You know how they can recruit things from their library? See, that requires 1: Mana and 2: Tapping the "recruiter".What you're supposed to do is deal with things that were put out there for more than {3} mana, essentially giving you the advantage, perhaps for long enough to deal with their deck and win. And if all else fails, at least the recruiter and the recruited won't be attacking before you can toss them into their deck.

Oh, and since this guy doesn't tap for the ability, you could conceivably just put all of their recruiters away and laugh. Just don't mess with a Big Game Hunter.

There are some other combos one might consider with this card, such as Imagecrafter or Unnatural Selection. You could make any creature an opponent controls a rebel then lose him in your opponent's library.

Decent card nowadays. I run it in an enhanced rebel deck, the enhancements being Mirror Entity, Training Grounds and Amoeboid Changeling. You can use rebels to tutor this guy out, then tutor out Amoeboid Changeling with another rebel and you have targeted removal for 3 colorless, or 1 if you have a training grounds out. Tap Amoeboid Changeling to give an opponent's creature all creature types, then use this to put it on the bottom of their library.

Alternatively, this + Training Grounds + Shields of Velis Vel (used on an opponent) means you can remove multiple creatures at 1 colorless mana a pop. Decent combo card.

You know, I've always thought that it's actually the Mercenaries that should be white aligned and the Rebels that should be black aligned, as black is more about freedom and the rejection of authority than white is, at least.

What I like about this card is that his name (and flavor text) are deliberately ambiguous, as is his ability.

Is he an informer who leaks information to the rebels, saving them from death? Or does he inform on the rebels, resulting in them getting disappeared? It can go either way.
