Since they can't put Serra Angel in Avacyn Restored, this is cool. I always love to see oldchool reprints, and this one fits the set perfectly! *** & ½

Old school with amazing art. I feel the art could have been put to better use but alas.

It's a shame it has to cost 5WhiteWhite....probably won't see much play outside of casual......

And to think they could have reprinted Baneslayer instead.

Combos with 7 land.

Well, a nostalgia card, for people still having their vision archangels around. Below the curve for most modern creatures. Still, a 5/5 uncommon flyer is something to be reckoned with in limited.

Beautiful card and great flavor text. however this is an example of how good cards in the day just are not good enough, this is a battleship great back in the day, but now we like small faster creatures. no home in standard, very high choice within limited though

I don't get why they couldn't do Serra Angel, but Archangel is just as classic.

Not suited for competitive constructed play, but it could be a good in limited. Plus it has nice art.

Great art, solid Limited card. Not so much in Constructed the way the game has evolved over the years. Still, I'm sort of glad they brought this back.

I'm so glad this got downgraded to uncommon. Upgraded? bah. I'm glad.

This thing was already overcosted the first time it was released, and creatures have gotten a lot better since then. Two extra mana over Serra Angel, for only +1/+1?

I am way more happy than I should be that this was reprinted. Also very good finisher in drafts.

@Ninjagod5092 Considering that this is a reprint of an oldschool card with iconic name, there wasn't much Wizards could do about her mediocrity besides the good move of downgrading her to an uncommon.
Suits the Set very nicely, and does an okay job for limited at least.
I just feel like the art could have been used for another angel instead. Don' get me wrong it's nice and all, but it doesn't look particularly archangelic to me (imho the Starter's artwork for example comes more with an (arch)angel's grace :P)

Meh. This art in this version is pretty good, but not nearly as good as the beautiful Portal one. Obviously included for limited only.

If I had to play a flying, vigilant angel, I'm gonna pick the 4/4 for 5 mana over the 5/5 for 7 mana every time.

That said, hey the flavor fits the set so it get some bonus points.

I love this card but...darn now I have to pick up both this and the really old school art b/c they're both beautiful. Would have liked a card named 'Valkyrie Archangel' that had lifelink or first strike for this amount of mana...but maybe pulling back a bit on the Spikiness of Angels with this card is a good thing. Maybe this is a 'sorry about that Baneslayer misunderstanding' from Wizards? 4 stars because it's oLd SkoOL. :D

I'm sooo going to get flamed for this, but...

This card should replace Serra Angel in the next core set. Something referring to Serra Planeswalker is inherently world-specific. "Archangel," on the other hand, just seems to imply an angel that has more power and/or authority than his/her fellow angels.

Before you vote me down, please realize that I LOVE Serra Angel both for being a better card than this and for all the times it won games for me in limited, but I think it's about time they cleaned up the core sets and we stopped seeing world-specific stuff in them.

And excellent reprint choice at uncommon.

Art stinks, and its very presence slows the entire limited format down. Not a lot of fun.

@Paleopaladin: In that case half of the core sets have to be redone. We have creatures from Benalia, Mirrodin, and Uthuun (wherever that is) to name a few.

what a terrible card serra angel is awsome but pricey at 5 cmc this is way over priced to play

I saw her in Visions as a Rare and was disappointed. I saw her in Avacyn Restored as an Uncommon and was wowed. She feels like a great uncommon. She's a beast in limited.

It's nice to have a good finisher like this in draft and sealed, but the art just doesn't seem as good as its past iterations.

I can't really picture an angel letting out a battle cry. I prefer to think of them as perfectly serene and composed even in the heat of battle.

Unless it's Razia, Boros Archangel or some other red angel of course.

maiby i just don't know enough about all the limited and draft play to really know what is good about this card but in casual i could not do anything with it serra angel hits the board 2 turns earlier and always did well but that extra 2 mana always seems to keep this one off the board or by the time she gets there serra
angel has already did most of the work to me it is just a bit to pricey for one extra power and toughness but i would love to get her and her sister serra out together they seem a good match but i cant pull it off for some reason

Archangel: For when you absolutely, positively must have +1/+1 more than the Serra Angel.

Something about "and the darkness made a tactical retreat" makes me chuckle. Obviously great in limited, and a smart reprint for this set.

This was made at at a time when Serra Angel was generally considered overpowered.

The big problem I have with this card is that it's actually fairly costed, but compares unfavorably to both Baneslayer Angel (same body, 2 less, adds lifelink, first strike and protection, takes away vigilance, came after this) and Serra Angel (effectively Archangel with Heartless Summoning, has been around since the beginning).
