One of the best bounce spells there is. If your opponent has an empty hand, he has to discard whatever was bounced. Which then equals: "Target player sacrifices target permanent", and then this cards deals with everything, no matter if it regenerates or is indestructible or whatnot. Also, if you play it on a token, it practically means: "target player sacrifices target token and discards a card", since the token obviously ceases to exist once left play, but the opponent still has to discard something.
Just an incredible card.

This is a fun card to combo with Warped Devotion. I played against a Megrim deck sporting those two cards as well as Urza's Guilt. It was brutal.
Invasion block was great.

This is A neat kind of bounce spell for BU. If only it said 2 cards instead then it could be a BU blightning- now that's awesome.

The best multicolor cards reflect their colors well. Recoil not only does that, but captures the essence of blue and black. Plus the interaction between the color abilities is perfect and simple. Not superpowerful, just a really, really good card.

Am particularly fond of following this up with lobotomy

Ah, one of my favorite instants. Just like another of my favorite instants from this very set, Undermine, it adds insult to injury.

Amazing. Try this trick: Wait for your opponent to cast an Aura on a token. Target the token with recoil. Your opponent sacs the token, sacs the aura, AND discards a card.

Amazing card.
Took me many years to realise it states "permanent". I guess I saw it was a common and assumed it said creature. Lovely card, many combos. (I like Rudyardo's and Latronis' ideas muchly).
Great card, very strong colour feel and effect combination.

How does it go when you paly Recoil on the card what opponent has got to control of spell or enchament? Does it come up to your hand or opponents? And if it raises to it's original owners hand then is it the original owner or the opponent who discards a card?

5/5 in every aspect. It's not cheap but not pricy either, instant and common but not broken, good on turn 3, good in the late game, cool art... A design gem from one of the best sets. Personal favourite.

Nice on plainwalkers. So close, yet so far.

Mark Rosewater's favorite gold card, and it's easy to see why- the design at play here is just impeccable.

Wow. I'm so blown away to find a u/b card that is so unanimously liked... this never happens. I've always liked and played this card and got boatloads of hate for it... Made me think I was the only one that saw it for how good it really is... nice to know I'm not alone. I do find it a bit far fetched that this is MaRo's fave gold card tho... is that at all true? If so, hats off to him for a solid pick...

It very much is MaRo's favorite gold card. Check out his podcast on Invasion where he talks about it.

I don't know why people rated down SAllison87's comment. If you hit a token with an aura either on it or targeted to be on it, then the token will bounce (and vanish), the aura will either fizzle or fall off (and goes to the grave either way), and then they'll still have to discard a card. 3-for-1 (2-for-1 if you want to ignore the token loss).
@TPmanW:
It's actually not usually card advantage, just card-neutral (which is still better than most bounce spells). In the basic usage, you spend a card to make them lose a card. 1-for-1. The bounce is purely a tempo thing (assuming they have junk in hand to discard). However, as the examples posted show, you can do better than 1-for-1 and can get huge tempo, and/or you can get an instant-mega-Vindicate, if the right situation comes up.
Nice card. Not game-breaking certainly, but it will pretty much never be a dead draw.

This card really aged well with the addition of planeswalkers.
