I suppose the best way to use this guy is as a way to train new players to attack often, as it's pretty clear that loosing this guy is a good thing

Bah!
You're all daft.
4cc for a 5/5 is outstanding.
Playing green makes the 'drawback' completely negligible, you can either ramp or just splash green.

Admitadly, this isn't as good as it used to be, what with 4cc 5/5s becoming the standard; Rumbling Slum, Mycoid Shepherd, Spellbreaker Behemoth, but this is still much better than most are giving it credit for.

HairlessThoctar ftw.
You guys are jaded by all the power creeps of today. 4 for a 5/5 is a pretty solid beatstick.

The best of the leeches, for sure. Unlike the others, he could win you the game after he was down. Thus, you wouldn't need to bother with playing much else - and if you did, well, it's green. Mana should never really be a problem.

Also, try him as the frontman in a 5-colour green deck.

The only leech I would use without Donate. His ability even allows you to curve into a turn 5 Jade Leech, and a turn 6 Jade Leech.
Of course, Blastoderm has shroud.

I agree with what some others had said, Jade Leech isn't bad at all.

1) Green has the highest potential of generating mana.
2) A 5/5 for four mana means that you would start the beating with or without any further spell casting.
3) It only affects green spells. In a multi-color deck, you have way more options than just green.

At the same time, it is true that Jade Leech isn't as good today as it used to be, but that's because of the power creeping, the card itself remain solid.

The best of the Leech cycle... which is like saying it's the least smelly piece of poop.

But yeah, this wasn't HORRID back in the day, but then again, it wasn't particularly good, either. Nowadays, there is so much that outclasses it, it's not even funny.

The only Invasion leech I would consider playing, as it's actually decent for its CMC, and green's the best color for dealing with this sort of drawback.

I mean, I still likely wouldn't, but I would consider it.

I don't know. Much worse than emperor crocodile? Both are pretty crappy. This guy can at least always be played, while the crocodile is sometimes completly useless.

From all the leeches of this cycle, I think this one is still the most playable. In a green + something aggro deck, it can deliver some serious beating, once the smaller creatures have been played. And you can still use your lightning bolts or black removal or blue bounce to get rid of stuff the other player has.

Not a great card, but better than the other invasion leeches.

This saw competitive play back in the day. It's not good now, but it's deserving of at least a 2/5 for its former glory.
