I don't think it's that bad. Turning a creature black can save it from some removal. Regeneration is nice as well. It also works as a combat trick with the +1/-1 or can kill small creatures. 2.5/5
That word "hose" is getting pretty overused. Anyway, it looked like a cool picture from the thumbnail, but... eh. Almost.

Terrifying art/flavor, but not all that great of a card. Can kill a 1/1 or save a creature of yours at an inflated price... probably not worth the mana spent on it.

In the same set and same CMC as Plague Spitter (which covers this things alternate use, but beats and does it repeatedly) and in the same block as Spiritmonger. May be slight differences in powerlevel here.
