Great way to "counterspell" a combat step. Even if you still take the damage, as long as you survive your opponent can theoretically take a TON of damage. Fun as heck in EDH!

I love thinking in today's terms (i.e. 'instant'), and seeing a sorcery that can only be activated at instant speed.

It should be fun to use this one with Children of Korlis and Tainted Sigil. Then not only will your opponent take the damage as well, but you'll entirely recover from the attack as well, or even gain twice the amount of life lost this way. Just make sure your opponent doesn't kill you off with the attack. Maybe consider an Angel's Grace to ensure that.

And to ensure that the creatures attack, use siren effects. You can also choose good old Maddening Imp (which again is a remake of an Imp that existed since Alpha).
Too bad Gideon Jura won't work the way this card is worded, otherwise it'd be a pretty awesome combo.
