I'm excited to obtain a playset of these for my amateur lifegain combo deck. Previously it planned on gaining infinite life and hoping for Test of Endurance to stick, but this is even better. Very good flavor too.

There are TWO certainties in life. Death and Taxes.
THIS just put my life gain deck over the top. The deck had problem because of the lack of evasion. This solves that problem.

@A0602 I guess the Skirsdag haven't been filing their tax returns. Either that or they haven't invented taxes on Innistrad. In that case, I'm planeswalking out of here. Zombie hordes can't be much worse than the IRS.

So, you've grown so used to the life it can give you, that...
... You pick up the chalice and beat people over the head with it?

Commander Review: The gain 1 life part is of course pointless. The lose life part... If you have a Commander that gains life efficiently, then this is ok. In all other cases, it sucks. Simply because you'd have to run a lot of lifegain in Commander to make sure this thing works. Another problem is that it's quite simple to stop, not only by artifact removal, but also by hitting you with a few creatures. And last but not least, it has no impact whatsoever on your opponents board position. Oh, and of course lifegain is worse in Commander than in many other formats, because of the additional lose condition of Commander Damage.
So, 2.5/5 if you run a lifegain commander such as Treva, and 0.5/5 in all other cases.

Happy chalice is happy, but then you drink all the liquid and it wants it back! But since it doesn't transform back, I guess it requires much more than any regular planeswalker can give it.

First thing I thought when I saw this double card:
Hufflepuff's Cup. Voldemort. HORCRUX DECK! Phylactery Lich....doing it.

There's just something that sounds so dirty about "Target player loses 5 life" on an artifact that can so easily be untapped. I LOVE IT

Am I the only one thinking about making copies of it once it's transformed?

Definately a good addition to my monowhite life gain deck - now i don't need to find Felidar Sovereigns anymore!
Very solid, and transforming into this isn't hard at all.
This card encouraged me to make a lifegain deck. Now if I can get the good lifegain cards I need without having to spend a crap load of money I don't have...

I don't understand the flavor at all. What is it trying to convey? That if you drink from it enough and become invigorated enough, you'll be able to make other people die with it?
...Anyways, it's an interesting card, I haven't seen another quite like it. I have 3 of them now, one Foil. It makes me want to try something other than Standard so that I can try this strange thing out. Seems like a great finisher for lifegain decks. Get your life up, and then end it. Rather than just riding out your 800,000 lifepoints slowly and using "plenty of time" as your wincon.

Phyrexian Metamorph is the only thing in Standard that can copy it. There are other cards that create token copies of cards as they are cast, but you can only cast this as Chalice of Life, and you can't flip a token. :(

A surprisingly effective tool for a modern Soul Sisters deck. After you've pumped your life up enough to take advantage of Serra Ascendant you can take them out with a minimum of 5 a turn.

@dberry02: Doesn't work, you copy the day side of a flip card.

If only it had target creature or player.

Who doesn't want a four turn death counter once it's activated. In a deck that focuses on lifegain, this isn't too hard to pull off.

This is a niche card. However, it fills its niche very well.
Think of it in an orzhov deck. This will flip by turn five or so, then become a fast clock. If you are extorting, this has to only activate twice to kill. It also gives you margin with the life gain.
Basically, this is perfect for an orzhov bleeder deck.
