Love the new artwork. They're like elephant tusks!

Is this legit in standard?
I heard the legit cards in standard are from the Alara Block and up.
But From the Vault: Relics isn't like an official 'Block" if it was, it'd probably replace Alara block instead of Scars of Mirrodin replacing it and it'd have way more then 15 cards?
tl;dr=Standard?

@Clayton
Because this is a special reprint set, these don't constitute a new block and, as such, are not legal in standard. BUT CAN YOU IMAGINE IF THEY WERE...

That's just like asking if you can use archenemy cards in standard. (Either from the set or the schemes themselves)
Also, Standard doesn't exist, so it doesn't matter anyways.

These cards aren't legit in standart (well, Sword of Mind and Body might be as soon as the new Mirrodin set is released). The cards are TOURNAMENT LEGAL - this means that the cards are legal in any format where the original printings are still legal - and apart from Sword of Mind and Body, all of the other cards are too old to be legal in Standart.

Jason Chan is a great artist. Just look at the card Naya Hushblade for example. I was hoping for a new and better looking Ivory Tower, but I think he missed the mark with this one. At least the artwork is not horrible. 4/5

the old artwork was amazing and beautiful, this is sub-par in comparison.

So simple and perfect.
While the new art is good, this is one card where I prefer the original art work. It might just be me personally, but when I saw this card years ago I was first and most immediately impacted by the art. It was in the back of my head for years, and just the other day I decided I'd look into it again, and it turns out it was a darn good card even beyond that lovely scene.
I'm happy to see it reprinted, and given a special place with some of Magic's more prominent stars. Though, I'll always remember it for that wonderful depiction of a sunset beyond three mysterious towers.

The flavor text fits this card perfectly. It would seem that Wizards is getting better with its assignment of flavor text as of late:
Lightning Bolt form M10 Sol Ring and this from Relics
Just to name the ones off the top of my head. If they bring something back from the olden days of Lore, then it gets rather amazing flavor added to it.

Alas, you are correct. But it's still a great line.

Great card for reliable lifegain early on. But if you can get to midgame, I'd use Venser's Journal.
Or hell, even both.
I guess the best part about this card is how it hits the field early enough for you to still have the cards in your hand to power it.

I like this card in turbofog deck. One thing fog doesn't cover is spell damage and a red burn deck can rip through you fast. Not with a first turn ivory tower lol. Maybe play another second turn, it will *** people off.
A billion times better than vensers journal because its a 1 drop.

Also: check out cards from the Ravnica block. Somewhere in there, Wizards hired the most talented flavor text writer ever to see existence in human society. This person seems to get random jobs here and there thereafter, but something like 40% or more of Ravnica cards have flavor text that makes you want to play the card no matter how mechanically unplayable it is.
It's fantastic. Ravnica's the only set for which I set out to collect a complete set from scratch, just because each card added to the collection was a treasure in its own way -- usually because of wonderful flavor text, even when the art was so-so :)
Once you have no limit on the number of cards in your hand, Ivory Tower can get out of control quickly. I've spent several games gaining 24+ life per turn off of a single Tower; at that point I didn't even bother to block. Of course in the current environment I'd need to do something to take care of Infect creatures, but that's not impossible by any stretch.
Mildly related: Gerrard's Wisdom. It's two Ivory Towers in Sorcery form.

I think the idea behind the art is that each individual tower is carved from a single colossal tusk.
But it looks like they're all being sucked into a black hole just outside the frame.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't really need mentioning because people already know it, but for the sake of it HAS to be recorded for posterity because it's so TRUE----
Necropotence is really, really, freaking good with this. :p
This card plus Venser's Journal for infinite hand and massive gain.

Why do people keep talking about the flavor text? It didn't change. It's been the same in every single printing right back to Revised.

Duuuude, this suuuuucks. Life gain suuuuuuuucks. This card's worse than, like, Rod of Ruin. Cuz, like, Rod of Ruin lets you damage your opponent, and, like, damaging your opponent is the only thing that matters, cuz you know, it lets you win the game and stuff. Life gain suuuuuucks. This card's almost as bad as Zuran Orb, dude. Uh, huh huh, huh. Mm heh heh, heh heh heh.
