Third black deck with Dark Ritual. Also it's my one of my favorite Dark Ritual artwork's.

at least this art is better than the dreadful mercadian masques art. sucks they did away with mana burn
btw, it's not new art, as seen in urza's saga

oh turn one win, you and your spirit crushing ways. who will you demoralize next? o_O

@ICEFANG13: Culling The Weak i believe this is what you are looking for, no? :)

P.S. Viva Phyrexia!!!

This art is so cool, I wanna sacrifice a creature too though to feed the awesomeness of the Phyrexian Empire! Well 5/5 obviously odds are good that you win when you play it, Dark Ritual shouldn't need to be explained anymore!

EDIT @OverfiendSurprise I do know of that card, but I always felt the unfairness of Dark Ritual is more powerful then Culling the Weak more Phyrexian more accepting of Phyrexian Negator :)

P.S.Phyrexian Negator sucks, I would never be afraid of it even slightly EXCEPT if he was put into play turn one with this beauty (and I played second).

This is practicaly black lotus in a mono black deck. If you play black, there sould be four of these in your deck (this and doom blade), NO EXCEPTIONS!

I once drew three of these, a Swamp, and Phage the Untouchable in my opening hand. 5 stars.

Excellent classic card. I took a long break from playing and was SHOCKED to find that they removed this from the basic set. This card was one of the nice benefits of playing black back in the days of Revised. I don't think it's that overpowered. There are enough ways to respond to just about anything being cast. 5/5

There's no reason any black deck should not have Rituals in it. Ritual > Swamp.

Dark Ritual is a classic black card. I really hope they reprint this for M11.

Mercadian Masques art is strictly better.

You do not play casual mono black without this card

There's a reason for black decks not to have dark ritual in them. Your friends will hate you for getting turn 1 Phage.

hmmmms everyone who gave it less than 5...
Seriously what did u want B Add BBBBB mana to your mana pool
and u win as a secondary effect. Just becasue it might as well.

I got 2 of this card, when i first started playing, in phyrexia vs. the coalition, and it was the main reason i was stricken when i realized most of the decks' contents weren't type 2. pretty please put this in the next set or block, wotc...

so... a turn 2 Abyssal Persecutor? i like that. Dark ritual is possibly one of the greatest cards ever.

You gotta admit: Black mana ramp is fun!

Why is this rated higher then Black Lotus? Black Lotus costs 0 to play so if you didn't pull a land card in turn 1 you can still play this and for any 3 colors. I guess its cause either its an instant, or people don't know about Black Lotus.

To VegaSecureA: Because Dark Ritual costs in the neighborhood of $0.25 to $1.00 to buy, where Black Lotus can cost up around $3000 to buy.

I can't think of any black deck that wouldn't benefit from at least a couple of these. 5/5.

This is what they meant by black magic.

Phyrexia vs The Coalition artwork is definetly enthralling. A personal favorite in fact.

The only reason not to use these is if you can't find it, but with the recent reprintings that is less of a problem.

Oh man. The best art, the new card frame, and classified as an instant. I'm still running Saga Rituals, I need to pick up this new version.

Either you rated this 5/5 because you use it, or you rated this less than 5/5 because you don't.

I refuse to play against this card in casual/legacy. Just stupid, it breaks the rules of magic too hard.

Great in the Phyrexia deck because it allows for a turn 1 Phyrexian Negator. That usually spells game over for the Coalition.

0.5/5. Can't use it in my green deck.

I must be seriously delusional, I'm trying to look up cards for Modern Masters speculation, and I THOUGHT I'd seen a PHYSICAL copy one time of a Dark Ritual with white frame and the Ice Age art. I wanted to check Gatherer to see if it was from 8th, and I can't find any Dark Rituals that would be Modern Legal. That must have been a fake Dark Rit. I saw in some dude's binder. About 12 of them.

5 out of 5. One of the most powerful cards printed. Can't believe it's not restricted in vintage... It should be. Love the original artwork the best. Classic magic card.

@DarthParallax: The Coldsnap preconstructed theme decks included some Ice Age and Alliances cards in the modern frame, Dark Ritual was one of those (as were Swords to Plowshares, Brainstorm, Disenchant and others - all with Ice Age artwork). Those cards were black bordered though. They don't show up in Gatherer but are in magiccards.info

Dark ritual: crazy powerful, crazy flavorful, a true classic. And though easily broken, it so nimbly skirts the edge of "over-powered" and "smartly-designed." One of R&D's better creations.
