One of the best slivers you have as it stops your sacrifice, and if you have mana you can use it with vicutal sliver to postively cycle life.

Unfortunately, it doesn't stop a creature from being sacrificed; by the time the ability resolves, the creature is already in the graveyard.
However, it works with dormant and harmonic slivers and can save your slivers from all forms of removal and combat damage as well. M10, sadly, weakened its ability.

It's a good Sliver if you want to protect it. I don't like to pay life so I'd rather sacrifice my Creatures in respond to removal instead of returning them to my hand.

The point is not to protect it specifically. The point is to protect better slivers. On a board wipe, you might want to bounce Crystalline Sliver back to your hand as well as Gemhide Sliver and let the rest die. This sliver lets you choose which sliver gets to go back onto the Battlefield on your next turn... not this one specifically.

I'm still waiting for them to nerf slivers by printing Nerfherder Sliver All slivers lose all abilities.
As it now stands they are evil in Commander decks and hugely annoying creature class.

OK so it says "all slivers" not slivers on battlefield or anything it says all slivers so I don't understand why I can't get a sliver out of my graveyard what I want to know is why it can't be taken as its stated all slivers have pay 2 life return sliver to owners hand "ALL" slivers
