Nice to see some new artwork for this. He looks less like Santa and more deserving of your respect.

And rightfully so. For three mana, you get a chump blocker and two basic lands. Pay an additional two after blocking, and you also get a card from the top. You might even get a couple hits in before he bites the dust.

I agree with Zosk, although since M10 rulings his 2 power unfortunately won't help you if you are planning to draw a card...

The M10 rule changes are driving me nuts.

Though M10 changed the rules,
You can still sacrifice him in response to him being blocked.
Which I would do, just to get that card draw.
Unless I really wanted the creature blocking to die.

Just like all great creatures, was ruined by the m10 rule change. Still a good card, but less so. No clue WHY they needed to change it. It should have just become "No casting spells while damage is being assigned and after blockers have been declared."

But whatever. Make it easier for new players to run over the competition.

Not as broken since the rule change, but still a 5 star creature. I run a successful version of an adapted coalition deck with some silvers, and this always gets me the lands i need. Great for my Domain theme as well.

Probably the only card worth using in the Duel Deck

Evil card to play against. A three mana creature in green that cantrips and nets two lands? That is card advantage on legs.

@ NARFna: I think he looks more like Prof. X in the movie than Magneto.

There are a lot of complaints here that a creature can't deal damage while being sacrificed (about the "M10 rule changes").

The M10 "rule changes" were actually a reversion to the way that Magic was originally played. I don't know precisely when it happened, but around '99 or '00 (maybe a year or two before), the rules were changed so that creatures can deal combat damage despite being destroyed before the 'combat damage dealing' step. It created a combat damage "stack", so that a creature's 'attack' hung in the air and took effect even if the creature wasn't actually there.

Originally, however, a creature's sword or claws or teeth were not allowed to deal damage if they weren't actually around. This is what makes the card Smite actually quite potent and powerful; especially in a color in which blockers are fairly easy to come by. There are probably a number of other cards which were originally designed with the 'combat damage stack' not being a reality.

He is an allstar in Pauper UG Madness, especially in terms of fixing for Gush.
