5/5 because I like the mana cost, restriction and the sorcery speed.
I would be happy, if most of the destruction spells would have similar costs/restrictions... Still useful against creatures with a high casting cost, well-balanced against mid-game creatures and a waste against weenies.... Well done!

Don't care for it as a sorcery really... Does it bother anyone else that the "artfully placed" blade in the art is nowhere near the victim's heart?

@roguepariah: Maybe on that plane, human's hearts are in different places? ;)

On constructed: Because of its speed and cost, it will never see play. There are simply always going to be better options.
On limited: There's like two cards total that Doom Blade can kill that this can't stop (that you're likely to run into), Serra Angel and Wall of Frost. Yeah, it's no Doom Blade, but it can be picked up later in the pack, and it's still removal.

@roguepariah: Given the ichor around the blade's entry point and the ichor coming from the victim's eyes and mouth, I'd reckon that it's a poisoned blade. Seems assassin-y enough.
Who cares if the blade is nowhere close to the heart? Isn't a punctured lung usually lethal? And slipping a blade between ribs does require a bit of skill. The card works on a larger portion of creatures then Doom Blade, but it's not instant and it costs more. It's an ok card.

One thing I'm curious about.. If the creature this was targeting became untapped before resolution, would it become an illegal target, thus making Assassinate fizzle out?
I'm fairly certain that's how it would work, but I'd like another opinion if anyone knows otherwise :D

Notice the pattern of the black (blood?) around the victim's eye. Then check out Royal Assassin. That can't be a coincidence. (It's the same eye, too.)

Maybe the art was flipped before printing? Maybe it is a reflection? Could be a hundred things.

@roguepariah: Maybe the victim had dextrocardia. Not everyone's heart is on the left, you know.

Considering Royal Assassin, I think this could have been an instant, though it'd have to be heavier in the colored cost in that case, like {1}{B}{B}. Yes, it takes out most attacking creatures... but it doesn't take out creatures with Vigilance, so there'd still be a nice balance between it and Doom Blade, as an instant Assassinate effect couldn't take out Serra Angel but could get Phyrexian Obliterator, whereas Doom Blade would be reversed.

Yeah, bad in M11 limited, I'd say.

@boneclub: If you look closely, you'll notice the victim is an elf. Maybe elves' hearts are on the right side of their chests..?
