Nice ability for a one-drop, good with gateing creatures, counter-adding.

Only better one drop for white is the Soul Warden...which this thing can kill.

New players underrate this thing so hard. Taking away that early birds of paradise or noble hierarch before they get to use it could win you the game by itself. The number of powerful one-drops that this thing kills is staggering.

Silly art though. The headpiece these fools are wearing doesn't make any sense, the guy on the Benson art looks like he's got down syndrome, and Beard's art is fairly boring.

Reprint this for M11 please!

Also @FragNutMK1: I do believe Mother of Runes is the best 1-drop for White.

And to thaviel: It's a bloody SOLDIER for crying out loud. Odds are it'll be a 2/3+ after using it.

This was oneof my first cards, but my brother took it back because he needed it for his soldier deck.

I don't know of any other white creatures or spells that can unconditionally deal damage to any target.
good card

This card is my personal favorite from Magic's early period. I got laughed at for playing this card, which was justified, but only because I didn't know how to use it then. You can use its instant effect to kill Lotus Cobra, BoP, Prodigal Pyromancer, Bloodthrone Vampire...or you could have, if they had put it in M11. In a soldier deck, it then forms an extra body to block or attack with.

Kirschner's Art is by far my favorite. I remember reading an article in the Duelist about the artist, and his philosophy on art was to create an image that was absent of any preexisting frame of reference. Benson's version is less imaginative (and she my favorite artist) and Beard went in a Greco-Roman direction. Also, the shadow halo effect is less obvious on the Fallen Empires original.

I love this. I use it to kill Dragonmaster Outcast in vintage.

I like javelin counters! They should do more cards like this with 'ammunition' style abilities.

A modern revision of this card would probably restrict its targets to "attacking or blocking" creatures as white prefers. A better home for the mechanic would be on a red goblin.

A 1/1 for W that can ping something once? Sure, why not. Terrible art, however, but that was typical of Fallen Empires.

What a great card this was, and still is. Being a soldier makes it all the crazier.

Compare vs Mogg Fanatic, which can activate the turn it comes into play (or while tapped), but doesn't stay in play afterwards as a 1/1; also, of course, this is in a color where direct damage is harder to get.

Anyway, this card is very useful. There's all sorts of annoying one-toughness creatures out there worth trading its token off with.

Radagast wins. That's a white Tim, and with proliferate and flicker effects these days it's better than ever.

Insane clown javelineers, at least this art.

These guys are powerful in a deck that runs a lot of recursion cards, like Lifeline. Strong tribe, as well. A solid 4.5.
