It's kind of funny when comparing the Oracle with the printed text. The card makes a lot more sense now, since i thought the creature in the foreground was the actual Sacred Prey, not the horse in the background (which doesn't really look like a Beast in the first place).

A 1/1 lifegaining Beast? And why it's name is Sacred Prey. The horse in the background seems more like the sacred prey... Wait a minite! It's not the Beast! It's the Horse!
Yeah, if it says Beast on the card, Oracle should reflect that: Horse Beast.
Also: Compare the printed version to Deepwood Tantiv, from the same set. The Tantiv was expected to live through blocking, so it got a "whenever". Sacred Prey was just a glorified Tarpan, so it got a pessimistic "when".

Not a terrible card for a one drop common. Sure, it's no Kird Ape but a cheap beast might have some use in a tribal deck.
