People are crazy on here; this guy is awesome. This is REAL ground support that you don't have to pay additional mana for. As long as he can get through, you can devastate virtually any creature on the board while you are killing the other guy.

Yeah. Being able to roast one of your opponent's creatures every turn is crap. Give me your mordant dragons. You fail.

yeah, i look at this and think Flameblast Dragon but worse.
for you idiots who think this is a good dragon, haven't you ever seen shards before?

with so many good dragons running around what prompted this crap to come into existence. I mean this is one of the wort dragons i've seen, and with all the jund dragons it's ridiculous to play this, I mean, maybe in limited, but that's a stretch.
and what's with the failed firebreathing?
ok I rescind my previous statement. I thought his ability was do damage to a creature "instead" this is not bad. But still worse than most of the other dragons running around in the alara block and the charger. Though I must ask again what's with the failed firebreathing?

The "failed firebreathing" is because, in many cases, this guy is going to deal damage twice: To the player and to the creature. So, you pay one for each damage.
I mean think about it. This guy with normal firebreathing would just be overpowered.

stop smashing on this guys hes sweet not only do you get to smack a player for a good chunck of damage but you get to crush a creature with him also just throw some claws of valakut on him and watch your opponents lose everything.

Compared to similar drops, this card is garbage. Flameblast may only taget 1, but with the right combination of cards, your opponent may not see past a Flameblast drop. Predator Dragon is better with any half good Jund deck. Hellkite Hatchlings have Devour Flying and Trample with a smaller drop. Really, its not a great card, which is why I traded my away so easily.

I'd toss Claws of Valakut on him before attacking. There won't be much need to use his not-quite-Firebreathing. The first strike will kill almost anything that blocks him, and it takes out something else that was trying to block if he went unchumped.

He is amaizning! if you cant destroy his creature just attack with him and kill his creature and deal 5 damege to your opponent.Much better than Shivan dragon.shivan is almoast same just dont do demege to creatures wich is wery good! 5/5

Ummmm, this isn't failed fire breathing........ As you can clearly see, he destroyed something on the ground, which is now smoldering from his flames. The flame in his mouth is the remnant of the flame used to destroy it, signifying that it was only moments ago that he wreaked havoc upon that village.

Not bad, I'll consider this one to update my dragon deck a bit. It shows some promise.

This was my first rare dragon, shivan was my second, they're both awesome, have them both in my red deck. Valakut claw them and they will destroy all.

its supposed to be fail fire breathing because it would be too overpowered if it had regular firebreathing.

What's with the firebreathing? and when I had this guy, I think I got to use his ability like once because he always got chump blocked, I traded this card off and never thought twice. My Two-headed Dragon is a better replacement anyway

Mordant Dragon is like a TIE Bomber; He flies in, and blasts something on the ground.
Shivan Dragon is like a TIE Interceptor; He flies over, and toasts the other guy in the air.
This is more of a question than a comment, but If Mordant Dragon attacks and gets through to the player and Glitspire Avenger is chosen to take the damage (then you may deal that much damage to target creature that player controls), Does the Giltspire Avenger have time to respond (by taping and destroying a creature that dealt damage to you) between damage beening dealt to the player and it being targeted?

mordant dragon + mage slayer + quietus spike = annihilation by declaration of attack, you can take half your opponents life and kill any creature he controls. and if you really wanna do something insane just put claws of valakut on him with that

Good card. Good for any burn deck.. well its a bit costy for fast burn deck, but still.opponents needs reach if they wanna stop this guy ,or at least have a kinda strong flyer. That "failed" firebreathing ,must cost 2 mana or this coulda be broken. With 2 mana burning its pretty normal so u can boost it to about 8/5 for that mana u played him for.

@TheCrimsonRaven Since M10 there's no chance to use any effects or play spells between the declaration of damage and the "dying" of creatures. Therefore the dragon kills the avenger berfore he can react.

Combos nicely with gratuitous violence for 10 damage to player and 20 to a creature they control, and that's without beefing his power. Then all he needs is life link: one Batterskull later and you've gained 54 life with a mono-red deck.

Stop whining! Now you can have "REAL" firebreathing for ALL your creatures with the new dragon in Dark Ascension

I have a foil one of these which my wife uses in her dragon deck, along with a foil two-headed dragon and a predatory dragon, plus others. Good card.
