Basically a Grey Ogre for 1BB that only discards when it dies. You need some good enchantments to use it's ability multiple times. Reasonable creature if you're heavy black.

Pretty useful, being a useful card in black back then was uncommon, but then so was being a useful card in any color...

He has a good deal going for him. Paying three for a 2/2 in black is not uncommon, especialy in earlier sets such as Mercadian Masks. But what makes him so great is his ability when he is blocked. Most players would rather take 2 damage than risk card disadvantage, so often he will get through.

Though there are some nasty things you can do if they do block him. Consider killing the blocking creature with a doom blade or a card like it. This allows you to not loose your creature, kill theirs and make them discard a card all in the same move. Very powerfull combo.

Silverware's got the right idea, but the only time your opponent would rather block than take 2 damage is if he's about to die, so you won't get a chance to pull that trick most times. Of course, you could up the ante by pumping him or throwing something like Snake Cult Initiation on him, but then you're at risk of losing two cards. Anyway, since it gives your opponent a choice, it's mostly worse than Phantom Warrior.

Combo with Liliana's Caress. Will they take 2 damage or lose 2 life? MWAHAHAHA!

I knew Franky looked somehow familiar to me.
So that's what he used to do before he joined the Staw Hat Pirates :P

If you're not playing Mercenaries, Slate Street Ruffian requires less black.

This + Infiltration Lens gives the opponent a bit of a dilemma. Block or take the hit?!
