The 10-life mechanic combines wonderfully with an old-school suicidal black creature. The way the flavor text reflects how the card actually plays is just perfect.

"Suicide black" is the first thing I thought of when I saw the vampires in this set. The lacerator is an improved version of carnophage, a key component of the old suicide black set. Hatred and Dark Ritual aren't legal anymore, but I can definitely see vampire decks becoming extremely powerful in the new type II.

GREAT racing card. It's downside is less than what you're hitting the opponent for, and if they choose to kill it later in the game, you lose the downside!

i enjoy playing with this bad boy very much. the art is ensane in a good way. a Swamp for a 2/2 body with a litlle problen that can be fix with tendrils of corruption or fist of blood. he is one of my favorite creatures.

Hmm, if you're playing Classic, Pacifism makes him worse than Carnophage, but white's not using Pacifism as much as say Journey to Nowhere or something, so I guess in type 2 he's playable.

I guess this whole vampire and 10 life thing is meant for Sorin Markov but I still don't use him. {B} for a 2/2 that causes -1 Life is still good enough for me; plus he can wear down your opponent to 10 life on his own too.

He isn't strictly better than Carnophage for two reasons: 1) With Carnophage, life loss is optional, and 2) let's face it, "zombie" is a better creature type than "vampire".

He is nice if he is in your starter hand and you are starting, otherwise he isn't. Should have made him rare and given him haste, along the lines of goblin guide. I like my vamps to have special abilities, like life link, build in kill spells, first strike and so forth. This is not vampiric enough for me, I see his uses as early suicidal beatdown, but cannot find a card to take out for this.

I love my Lacerators so very much. Threw them in a deck I built for a friend who was just starting. Took me several minutes to explain to him WHY playing this turn 1 would be worth losing the 1 life on the next turn before you threw a bonesplitter on it and swung for the fences.

Underrated, he's no Goblin Guide but Black can't have a vampire equivalent! He's still a great turn one play, follower by a Bloodghast etc, it's the reason Vamps is good, tempo.

This could struggle versus aggro, since you turn an opponent's shock into a spell that also does a damage to the controller. Otherwise it is a fantastic card. Cards with downsides are excellent for skill testing.

You can later sac him to Bloodthrone Vampire and trigger Blade of the Bloodchief. Play another Vampire's Bite and kick it this time to give whatever creature is equipped lifelink to make up for the damage lost by Lacerator.
