I've nicknamed this guy Doran, the Siege Tower's pet.

Nice blend of green/white. I don't know about it being rare, but it's usable.

It doesn't compare much to today's power levels, but this guy used to be a very efficient 4-drop. He still holds a special place in my heart.

Rare?

I mean it's by no means a bad card, but rare?

It would probably fit well at an uncommon slot, if only for flavor.

I don't understand why they put this at rare. I don't see it causing any problems for Limited at Uncommon. They usually pull rarity on a card like this so that there aren't a dozen of them in any given draft, but still... Rare? Hardly.

The definition of decent... and nothing more.
Think I could really get to like the dude though.

Good, but not rare. Uncommon would be fine for it, in a multi-color set, common might not be too powerful.

I think this was originally designed as an uncommon but there was no more room left in the uncommon slots. This happens sometimes while designing a Magic set.
However, the mana cost is the average between power and toughness rounded up; consider then the two abilities... Not the most powerful nor the funniest rare to unpack, but still decent...

You guys questioning its rarity... you do realise this was printed 11 years ago...creatures have power creeped up ALOT since then...

This guy ate many a Nightwing Glider and Steadfast Guard of mine back in the day...

Why give a creature with a higher toughness than power first strike? If it is strong enough to kill the other creature with first strike, toughness doesn't matter. If it isn't, then first strike isn't important. Might as well play Longbow Archer- same power, first strike, and reach, but mono color and {2} less. And a better supported type.

I seem way more excited about this guy than you nerds. A spider with first strike? Hell yes. 2/4 for 4 cmc? Not the greatest anymore, but I think in his colors, he's unique and awesome. I doubt there's many other first strikers with higher toughness than power. I think what he's missing is Vigilance though. Then he would have earned rare.

I don't know of too many green/white spiders but I do like this one! Not so sure about it being a rare though.

Attach any powerboosting or deathtouch equipment to him and you have a true card-advantage monster. Quietus Spike would make this guy an absolute terror to deal with; especially if they've been doing well during the rest of the match (I.E. you can't afford to keep feeding him creatures.)

I imagine this fitting right into a spider tribal deck (among many others!) Rancor is enough to make him unstoppable. Glad to see an old card that still compared to current creatures fairly well.
