This is really useful in a good variety of deck types-discard is good for control or mill, since your opponent will be short on cards (and therefore have less options that you need to limit, or less ways to counter your milling), second ability is good for combos or for pulling yourself out of a tight spot (grab a lifegain card or something), and third ability creates an army of the undead that will probably not be brought down by anything less than Wrath of God or Planar Cleansing.

She's not underpowered, like some people may say. It's just that she's really well-balanced, unlike the more popular and pretty broken 'walkers like Garruk (seriously, he should have been costed 5 mana, and -4 for his ultimate is WAY too cheap). All of her abilities are useful, especially the second one. She can be a repeatable Vampiric Tutor minus the life loss, and that truly works wonders in my MBC. An all around great card. 4,5/5!

A lot of complaints are directed at her Tutor ability, and the fact it sits on the top of your deck...
well, a nice combo is Djinn of Wishes -
tutor up that Sleep and use it during the opponents turn! They lose an attack that turn, and you get a fairly free swing the next... and the next!
also, Ponder... etc. anything that gets you a draw benefits from putting something good on top.
The Djinn lets you play anytime, so you can summon a creature, play a sorcery on their turn, enchant your blockers, etc
Having a way to load that card on your top deck, rather than in hand, does have it's advantages.

Question; This may have been discussed before, but i was just wondering if the +1 and -2 and -8 (respectively per mythic rare) counts as "counters" and could be altered by other cards or are these considered "unalterable abilitys"?

Nastradamus,
These counters can be affected by other cards, Gilder Bairn works well.

Very tempted to try running her in my black vampire deck. The discard is nice for card avantage, but I'm really salivating at the prospect of forcing the Vampire Nocturnus boost with the second ability. Depending on the deck you're facing you may be forced to keep from putting a really good card on top (ie. another Nocturnus might be dangerous on top if your opponent is milling and has Hedron Crabs out), but the vampire deck is based around speed, and what better way to get a boost of speed than to turn your army into +2/+1 fliers at will thanks to Vess. It also provides defense for her from fliers, unless of course your opponent mills you onto a swamp. Plus, if you really need land to bring out more powerful creatures and spells (for example, Malakir Bloodwitch to win the game, or that one which takes half the opponent's life and you have a non-land on top... you can attack first, and then tutor out a swamp after (depending on the opponent's creature situation of course).

@Anyone wanting to know how to play a planeswalker:

See the #5 in the bottom right hand corner? That's basically what they need to live. Every time you play that +1 ability, it bounces that number up by one. So by making a player discard a card, she becomes a 6 instead of a 5. Conversely, when you use that -2 ability, it will take her from a 5 to a 3. When that number reaches 0, the planeswalker dies. Its number can also be reduced by direct damaging cards, like lightning bolt, or its inferior counterpart, shock. So to use that beastly -8 ability, you'll have to build her up to 9. Hope that helped.

Overall, a very usefull card;

I've lost count of how many times her first ability has saved me from counterspells (coupled with a few Sedraxis Specter(s) ), and her second ability has gotten a Damnation into play; the shuffle thing is also rather useful if your opponent has some library-ordering cards.(though I can't remember if there are any)

And let's not forget the last, epic finish! Just add in a Sarkhan Vol and a Fury of the Horde / Relentless and you have a winner!

simply beautiful. (pun intended)

May I have to discard a player with no cards in his or her hand to get another +1 counter? Thank you.

The only problem I noticed while running her in RB Discard is that I've already emptied by opponent's hand by turn 5+. Still, she good as a double tutor

I had always underestimated this card, this planeswalker, but now im seeing her in a different light. i would actually put her in a deck that i just made, and i would think about using her in my other black decks, mainly to run interruption on the hand, but also for the awesome tutor mechanic definitely goes hand in hand with dijin of wishes, love it. i now give her a five and not a 2.

Liliana's ultimate + Jace Beleren's ultimate = Around 14 ish (mabey 20 but that's highly unlikely) free creatures. WIN

Her +1 ability is awesome and the artwork is very well done. I can't wait until they make a new version of her like they've done with all of the other major planeswalkers; Ajani, Jace, Chandra, and Sarkhan.

So, just a question...
When is Liliana going to go off on some tangeant like a few of our normal-esque Planeswalkers?
'Cause let me tell ya, I've been hoping for a G/B Planeswalker,
And this girl seems like the one to skee-daddle her way there.
Ajani went and played with red.
Sarkhan got a little stir crazy.
And Jace blew our minds.
When's Elspeth, Garruk, and Liliana going to get such an honor? D:

:EDIT:
She didn't get a new color, but Elspeth got a revamp in Scars.
C'MON!

You. Do you know how much trouble you have caused me? How many games I would have won had you not come into play? What I have to do to stop you? I sideboard 3xVampire Hexmage just so I can see victory. This card is a game-winner, no joke.
