2.5. Cool, but definitely not worthy of uncommon status, in my eyes.

For 3 Mana's!? I've seen better cards..

I believe the uncommon status comes from the changes to deathtouch with M10.

Hotstreak. As much as I love the Planar Chaos background, I love the attitude of the 10th and M10 (11th) flavor text. Definately worth having multiple Hotstreaks if you play 1 or more decks with red.
A shame they went and made him uncommon though.

Quietus Spike...and they WILL be ashes...

the change to uncommon is because of the smaller common print run. if it was seen more often it would turn things like ice cage useless, and any other one drops as it would be seen already 1/3rd(?) more often, and it was already seen 1-3 to a deck when in red in 10th edition, combined with other removal is pretty damn powerful.

Gorgon Flail is a cheaper alternative than Quietus Spike if you just want to destroy the opponent's creatures :)

@Quietus Spike
Using Quietus Spike won't work. As it states that it'll only work with combat damage. This is different than death-touch.

@Jokergius

wouldnt work, Quietus Spike needs it to be combat damage, not just any damage.. if it was any damage, the card would be broken...

It's hard for me to believe that this started as a timeshifted version of Prodigal Sorcerer. It has such a red feel to it.

Its a nice card i guess, not worthy of uncommon, maybe if it was a 2/2, i mean if this is uncommon then vampire aristocrat, child of night and vampire lacerator all should be uncommon, the point is this is not uncommon worthy, it occupies space in booster packs that should be occupied by other cards, i would be happy to pull this IF it was a common being what it is it would be dissapointing to get this in a booster pack

@Everyone. It does work, using any deathtouch artifact with this kills creatures when tapped. I have a deck built around the concept and use it frequently online.

Which of Quietus Spike's abilities are each of you talking about? The Deathtouch ability still works with pinging damage, but the damage-to-opponent ability ability requires the damage to be combat damage. Reading the comments of you three, it looks to me as if you all thought both abilies worked the same.

This, as well as just about any red card, works incredibly well with Furnace of Rath, since it's already as weak as possible, there's no negatives to it, and if you have 4 of them out... well anything under an X/8 without shroud or protection is getting burned alive the second it comes out :)

Sparkmage isn't strictly better - but yes, it's better for almost all practical purposes. If you have to resort to attacking or blocking with this guy for some reason (admittedly, not what you ideally want to be doing, but crap happens) you'd rather have this guy than the sparkmage.

However, even knowing this, given a choice of which one to include in my deck I would indeed go with Sparkmage every time.

I think the Q-Spike comments are referring to giving this guy Deathtouch, not to the Spike's other ability.

I have a red deck based on these guys, don't think I will go for the death touch combo since it would surely win me many games, but it would discourage my friends from playing magic. Without death touch this guy can still be useful, especially if you have 2 or 3 on the field at the same time and don't tap them during your turn, in that they can give the last damage needed to slay the enemy creatures in combat.
Combine some of these and some more pingers and damage instants with a whipkeeper to do lotsa damage.

@Tommy9898: But what if you wanna attack with your 3 CMC 1/1 creature!?

Yea no, but give this guy deathtouch and you're pretty much all set. Though you'd probably want some sort of shroud on him too, because you can bet your ass your opponent is gonna be lookin' to remove him as quickly as possible.

"What am I looking at? Ashes, man. Seriously, with all this fire and smoke in my eye, all I can see is ashes. Please lead me to the village optometrist."
