Compare to Char, Flame Javelin is better for mono-red. Char however is easier to splash without the increase of mana cost.

Mono-blue doesn't need this, we have Psionic Blast. Anyway, this is a great card for mono red, in any other deck (unless i guess you're trying to put it in mono-white or something) you're probably better off with Char.
I prefer Char for flavour and style, but this is my second favourite damage spell! Compared to Lightning Bolt this seems to cost too much, but deals unconditionaly 4 damages, that it's A LOT better than 3, because it can kill bigger creature. To kill a 4/4, with a Lightning Bolt you need another spell/creature, but with this you don't need anything else!
4.5/5 because it shines in mono-red, but is difficult to splash...

Beast in a mono-red burn or sligh deck. A little expensive at 3 mana, but personally I find that burn decks with a few 3 mana "finishers" give the deck strong turns 3 and 4.

Very good with Blazing Shoal, Riddle of Lightning, and other things that rely on cmc. @leomistico This is pathetically easy to splash, it can be played in a deck containing no red at all!

First time I saw this I didn't 'catch' how great the flavor text really is.
I run this in a janky Pyromancy and madness based mono R deck with a bunch of other high cost red burn spells. High cmc is good for the pyro ability but I can also hard cast it for 3 if I don't have the enchantment out.
